What a waste of time it was, I'm now a member and can't navigate past the welcome page.
Don't tell LJ, as he will just take the shit out of me.

Thanks - those maps are excellent. I looked into some of the French street names. It is interesting to see which names ended up being Wikipedia-worthy and which ones turned up virtually no results. The few streets that were given Cambodian names have largely remained. While, as you would expect, the ones with French names largely have not. The map wasn't detailed enough to see the name of Pasteur, but I guess that would be one of the few that survived. It was a bit of a rushed job, so feel free to point out any errors...

See, I told you there was a reason they called it the Dragon Bridge crossing St. 108 - 106 over...well....nothing now.....but back in the day sonny, we had CANALS to move the monsoon rains out of town...not like you young wipper-snappers that have massive drainage projects that don't work and still have to swim and wade around all the time...back in OUR day, we were DRY.

I found reference to that tourist map as being from 1934.
Re the reported dates, I'm not 100% sure they're accurate.
This map is listed as being from 1930, and shows no canals,
yet the 1928 and 1934 do show them?
Dates as I have them are:
1928
1928
1930
1934
1934
Belleindochine.free.fr says

Russei Keo district, or the "Cathlic Village".
No area given...
Some nice photos here... with highly detailed downloads available.

It doesn't appear on the 1971 city map if that's any help.Felgercarb wrote:I notice a lighthouse marked on the tip of Chruoy Chungva peninsula over many years. I wonder what happened to it. I don't think I have ever seen a picture of it.
Anyone?
