If you don’t work for a Cambodian company, or actually work dealing with Cambodians, how would they even know?
Thanks for your input and all, and I’m sure this is fine for many of you. But personally I’d sleep more comfortably not making “try not to get caught” my strategy - especially as it introduces extra jeopardy in the form of possible tax evasion charges on top of the WP violation. I know many of you have been getting away with it for years and are probably laughing to yourselves at my skittishness, but I don’t fancy being the first one to get caught.
I’d rather just get the documents I need and pay the correct amount of tax and get on with my life. I realise many on K440 will find this amusing.
Keep your knickers on.
You asked above what he meant and I translated.
There’s plenty who’ve been caught working without WP or the correct visas. They’ve been booted out but they openly worked and advertised their business.
If you want to be legal you’ll have to pay tax on earnings that means setting up a company and doing monthly returns. If you get paid by an overseas company you’ll probably be taxed so unless they have a tax agreement you’ll be double taxed, plus the cost and hassle of owning a company here.
You’ll also need to be registered with the tax ministry, which also costs money, as you’ll need a tax patent to get a visa and WP.
If you’re squirrelled away in your own house working online I doubt anyone cares or knows.
I’m not sure if banks care either if you’ve got regular “income” coming in.
