Re: Myanmar Conflict
It appears the Arakan Army have taken Maungdaw and possibly the 15th Military Command in Buthidaung (I assume the town along with it). They appear to be mopping-up smaller Tatmadaw bases in the region, particularly along the Bangladesh border. https://twitter.com/ThomasVLinge/status/1787471290363723...

Re: One Belt, One Road Disaster! 500 Ghost Towns in Cambodia, Billions Invested Lost - Page 2
the Cambodian Government took on no debt, has no/little skin in the game and the Cambodian people have little financial risk, even if it loses $ the next 10-20 years. Not entirely. The asset is a key component to a significant contributor to the Cambodian economy. If it doesn't function, or functio...

Re: One Belt, One Road Disaster! 500 Ghost Towns in Cambodia, Billions Invested Lost
Ahh, the old graphic that only tells part of the narrative! Pakistan's debt to China is about $17B, give or take, that is true but what % of the debt do you think that is? 90%, or even 50%, or $30%? Nope, it is around 15%. Total around $121 billion. They owne US$7.4 billion to International Monetar...

Re: Detained by Police for Filming a Temple
Were you detained a second time or is this a repeat of your experience with the Thai authorities in March?

Not sure about balut, though fresh water lobster most certainly. I heard catches have been plummeting.

An interesting clip. She conflates private real-estate development with Belt and Road infrastructure investment, however the two practices have a commonality in poor investment choices fueled by the prospect of short-term rewards (be it economic or political).

Good luck to them. There will be a myriad of problems and missteps along the way, however if this is the general line of thinking then I am all for it.

Phuket I know you've been following the war for at least a decade. Where do you think most of the weapons for insurgents are coming from? I've heard a lot of rumors about the Chinese and Indians supplying weapons but why would the Chinese do so when China, is trying to improve relations with Nyapyi...

Re: Kampot police boss unhappy with pisstaking seahorse snaps
My guess is the Chief of Kampot Police isn't concerned about social media pictures, however many within higher political circles are as satire is an effective tool for highlighting political missteps and hence they like to see it quashed at every turn. What would Sacrava have said about it all? He ...

Re: Kampot police boss unhappy with pisstaking seahorse snaps
Always amazes me how they get their noses out of joint about petty stuff, be it musical truck horns, water guns, or indeed ugly hippocampi. As if there were not more urgent and "real" issues. My thoughts exactly. Nearly one fifth of the country is living in poverty and this guy is concerned about s...

Re: Argue about Ukraine/NATO/NWO etc
I saw an interesting DW interview with an ex-Russian Central Bank economist on the economic impacts of the War. One interesting aspect is that as many poor, marginalised families have men at the front, there has been a redistribution of wealth (due to the very high wages of combatants), giving them ...

Re: Trump 2024
I'm guessing the current criminal trial will have no impact upon the perceptions of the MAGA faithful, however what impact will it have upon the moderates needed to win an election should be be found guilty? Also there is the issue of time spent in court as opposed to being on the campaign trail, pa...

Re: Myanmar Conflict
I'm referring to Bangladeshis but I would guess that the Rohingya issue would anger most Bengalis as their Rohingya brothers are being targeted because of their race. Although I haven't given the matter much thought I do think it would be difficult to pull off an invasion. They would need to move t...
