Re: safest bank here (in the event of economic collapse)??
Was just informed by Hattha Bank Kampot branch that they're running a special for March & April, offering half a percent more on top of the current deposit rates (starting with a 6 month contract to a 36 month one). Quick access accounts are paying 3%. 3.5% if you maintain a balance over $5k. The H...

Re: Bitcoins worth more than gold - Page 22
this decade everything will be re-priced in bitcoin. Trying to imagine this in Cambodia, where about a dozen wealthy locals may own bc (the barang don't count). This decade? Yeah, sure. :D BC is now in a catch-22 situation: On such a pumped up artificial high, it will deter the risk-averse & ' neve...

Re: safest bank here (in the event of economic collapse)??
Most MIFI's have probably reduced their deposit rates at the end of 2020. I have heard that it's getting harder to find new lenders in this current economic climate, which is actually responsible behavior by the potential lenders but also highlights the shared feeling of a very uncertain outlook or ...

Re: Current state of entry requirements?
Not quite right. I was issued a visa at an embassy, and had no job offer (not even looking for one). And my wife is not Cambodian either. A mistake/exception made in out of dozens of cases doesn't justify a 'no, those aren't the rules' response. I hope you'll return to provide the requested details.

Re: Anyone bought or living in one of the Mekong Homes models?
The largest house on stilts, 6 x 9 m = $10,099 (no kitchen & bathroom, which they offer for $1250 either inside the house, below or separate, but I will decline). Transportation is $400. Optional: 4 slope roofing: $350; electricity installation: $290. If you plan to have aircon installed, a ceiling ...

Re: safest bank here (in the event of economic collapse)??
Prasac is down to 7% for KHR & USD (min. 12 months, THB not offered) if you open one now. The link's been posted already. AMRET just lowered interest rates by half a % for USD & KHR & between 1 & 2% for THB deposits (if I'm reading that correctly in Khmer) for contract lengths below 48 months. 10% i...

Re: Anyone bought or living in one of the Mekong Homes models?
mekonghomes.com They sell 4 standardized models for a very good price. The photo I posted is from their Phnom Penh open air showroom. I visited two weeks ago and had a good chat with the staff. I do intend to buy their largest model on stilts and build my own kitchen & bathroom below it. It's not a ...

Re: safest bank here (in the event of economic collapse)??
According to my research, those days are over for new contracts, even for KHR. But I'll be happy to be proven wrong.
Expect more interest rate drops in the future.
I don't see an economic collapse in Cambodia happening anytime soon anyway.

Re: Table of bank and MFI deposit rates?
Likewise, Kredit don't offer any term deposit savings accounts anymore. They no longer exists, they've been taken over by Phillip Bank and are offering much lower rates. I had started a new thread on May 10 stating exactly that and their new top rate of 7.5% and mentioned it in my mini table of cur...

* should have read ends June 30th '20 Why did I think it was 2012  https://i.postimg.cc/m2mQBYsb/20200518-201412.jpg I contacted them, they only offer 10% for 48 month KHR, not 11%. They have increased, slightly, their rates for 12/24/36 month from 8% to 8.25%. Maybe that was a "Kampot by...
