Broken Bricks then and now
I think that there's been enough water under the bridge for me to admit that Dave Finch aka Peaceman was a top guy, (but perhaps a little sketchy towards the end). In fact, his BKK1 bar - the original Peace Cafe - would have to be a contender for one of the best PP bars ever. Does anybody else here here remember the Peace Cafe when it was on St 63?
Moving swiftly on and years later, Dave had Broken Bricks on St 130 in an amazingly decrepit French colonial building that looked to be on the verge of falling down.
After Dave left, a Khmer soup cafe moved into his space and rumors swept around town that the whole building was about to be knocked down, but astonishingly the building is now being renovated rather than bulldozed.
So here we have a colonial building that hasn't been trashed to make way for something ugly and pink with reflective windows.

They called it 'eclectic'. I will say, the music was always good there. Unfortunately it was sad to see David go downhill so fast. I think it started after his wife was blownup mistakenly by a hand grenade purportedly thrown into the wrong bar. I always imagined that building in it's hayday. The restoration is superb.

You forgot the original Sonteipheap in Boueng KakDoes anybody else here here remember the Peace Cafe when it was on St 63
The grenade was thrown into the karaoke place next door. A piece of shrapnel hit Sokha in the heart as she was closing the gates.... I don't think David was ever the same again unfortunately, but understandably so...I think it started after his wife was blownup mistakenly by a hand grenade purportedly thrown into the wrong bar

I am just waiting for two more events:
i) KiR to say Sam Campbell is human, and;
ii) For him to actually reply to an SMS once in a blue moon
At which point my suspicion that he has had a Full BileOtomy will be confirmed
Although, should this prove to be the case, worry not, I keep a full emergency supply of surplus; Bile, Piss and Vinegar which can be used.
