Kind of ironic that there is this thread running at the same time as "Another Old Building Disappears" http://www.khmer440.com//chat_forum/vie ... 14&t=23918

The Khmer are never going to go for "Ghetto Chic" it is "Gentrification" or demolition. That's all she wrote.

I don't see how it is ironic. This thread is about an old building being renovated and most have agreed that it was very well done.TJP777 wrote:

He's been in his room 35 years...time to let him out!
LL - I was just referring to the two posts I highlighted (didn't read the rest just from your photos on). The irony I saw was that we had two people reminiscing about how it was at its best when it was dilapidated when the other topic shows that if buildings are left in this state to deteriorate they will most likely be demolish as they become unviable. The two contrasting positions are incongruous. The irony lay in that incongruity.Lucky Lucan wrote:I don't see how it is ironic. How phnom penh has changed in just a few years.I remember when the building was tumbling down and dave would potter around on the sidewalk building little brick walls and things and then paint them silver. The cyclos and tuks would gather around at night to sleep with their blinds down and there was rubbish everywhere.
Now st 130 has road markings and parking bays and is one way and the building is looking fine.
And the two david Fs have taken different paths, the small one from st 130 is in suburban blighty and the larger one from st 136 is in thai immigration detention, still.

Well one then got his life back on track after an unfortunate detour and the other one had always been an evil piece of shit and is now paying the consquences.

In fact, I still have a piece of Broken Bricks Bar on my wall salvaged the morning after the night it was destroyed... So at least two remnants remain.Pst n Broke wrote: ↑Sat Oct 10, 2009 10:34 amWould you believe that the pavement brick with "bollocks" written thereon is the only remnant that still exists of "Broken Bricks". It sits idly outside a new bike shop/cafe across the road. The Khmers are still trying to work it out.peaceman wrote:
