Barang tax for drugs at clinics in the KOW after consultation
Dudes,
Sort of a branch off from the MFI exploitation thread maybe..
Pineapples, pineapple pen?
I'm now on antibiotics for an infection after a visit to a clinic. It's only my second time purchasing drugs from a clinic that has just done a check up on me.
One thing that strikes me is that the consultation price is usually very reasonable but the drug prices..maybe not so. The bill came to $80 including the good consultation (touch wood) with 35 tabs of amoxicillin antibiotic (vietnam made) coming in at $1 a tablet with the rest just basically saline spray up the hooter and some medicinal spray and once a day anti inflammatory.
So on my very limited experience there is possibly a 100% barang tax/mark up on the drugs after a consultation. Either that or we should all be buying shares in Glaxosmithkline and this is the evil exploitation within capitalism that SCC talks about - and i wonder how the fcuk Khmer's get on when they need to buy antibiotics and maybe Donald Trump is their savior - Jan 31, 2017 - President Donald Trump met with leading drugmakers at the White House on Tuesday, jawboning them to produce their medications in the United States and to cut "astronomical" drug prices.
So my question - if the drug bill was much much larger would you ever buy the medicine elsewhere, eg just take a small amount of the drugs he's selling and just take the consultation?
Also can you drink beer whilst on amoxicillin?
Peacsh.

Yes. I've done it before.
If you are paying for the consultation then I'd feel no guilt about buying drugs elsewhere.
I'd probably give them a chance to be reasonable but it their prices are ridiculous I'd tell them not to worry and I'll buy drugs elsewhere.

I've had that happen a few times here where I have got stitches for very little, but then clinic has tried to charge an extra $20/30 for a week of antibiotics, some paracatemol, vitamins and a bottle of iodine.
Usually I just laugh and say I'll buy my own medicine. No big deal.
Clinics just want to get every last cent out. I wouldn't take or buy any amoxicillin unless I had an actual infection though. Lots of so called doctors here like it taken as a preventative measure, which is dumb. Around $2 for 40 generic amoxicillin at the chemist.

It's a dwarf clone of US big pharma... the doctor gets commission on the prescription, hospital stay, (often totally unnecessary) surgeries (caesarians are the most exploited). Thaksin Shinawatra was astute enough to see this and create loyalty by undermining it with the cheap healthcare plan.
Never, ever buy drugs at point of treatment.

It's nothing to do with being barang, clinics will do this with Khmers just as happily.
And some like to put the pills in unmarked bags / bottles so you don't have a clue what you are taking and can't buy from the chemist.
In contrast, my doc in Bangkok is happy to send me off to the chemist down the road where I can buy any needed meds at a fraction of the price they are at the hospital pharmacy.

I'm pretty sure I know the clinic the OP is talking about, but I won't name them, as I could be wrong. The prices listed are almost identical to what I have experienced for the same medicines.
They also have a two tiered consultation fee, but they don't tell the barangs that or list fees anywhere. Interestingly, most of their doctors are barangs.
In future, I might try a two tiered pineapple cure-much cheaper.

The pharmacy at Central Hospital provide brand pharmaceuticals, Beyer, GlaxoSmithKline etc. and they always come in their correct packaging. They are expensive but from memory no more so than if I bought the same brand name at Pharmacie Phsar Tapang for example. Of course I could purchase generics for much cheaper. In my experience there has never been any pressure to utilize the pharmacy in preference to an outside source. After getting a prescription and discussing the medication it is implied that where I purchase the medication is up to me.
so my online diagnosis was correct. SCORE! even if you only attribute to me my MFI investigations and pineapples. Maybe have some mfi investments?spitthedog wrote:Dudes,

amoxicillin 500mg x 10 = 3000r from my local farma. i thought everyone knew you never buy drugs at the docs.
no beer, but you can smoke a shit load of weed.
or yes, you can. but the idea is that if you are sick enough to take antibiotics that you should not be drinking alcohol until you are well. more irresponsible info from me.
It is okay to drink beer and take antibiotics and the same time. Not a good idea to go on a bender but a few beers will not have any harmful affects with the medication. Source; my Australian Doctor, advice given to me many times, most likely because he knew I would anyway.

True, no huge amounts of beer, you end up just pissing your dose away. Amoxicillin is a fairly broad spectrum ab and as such will kill good and bad bacteria which is not good for your gut. Weed and healthy food, I'd go with that...just till you get better.
Never mind
I always thought consuming alcohol while on antibiotics will just reduce the potency of the drugs?

mostly but some times it can cause a weird reaction in people - like fainting/vomitting. only with a handful of antibiotics though.YaTingPom wrote:I always thought consuming alcohol while on antibiotics will just reduce the potency of the drugs?
