90% of the coffee in Vietnam isn't/ And if all the Weasel coffee sold in Laos was real, the country would be about 3 feet deep in Weasels.horace wrote:So you haven't been to central Laos or Vietnam! I have seen the coffee beans being roasted grounded in front of my eyes. I drink it black, hot and bitter which may not be everyone's taste.

I'm not sure about Laos, but despite Vietnam's standing as the 2nd largest coffee producer in the world, they also serve and sell the cheap soybean coffee -- it's even listed as an ingredient on some labels in the store.horace wrote:So you haven't been to central Laos or Vietnam! For reference:
AE86's classic fake coffee thread (writing as AK87, his former pen name)
News item: Fake, potentially toxic coffee seized in PP
And Cambodia's Fake Coffee Outed Thread in response to Akira's great article Most Cambodian ‘Coffee’ Is Actually Soybeans and Scorched Corn.
Akira, if you read this, you mentioned you might write up a thread on how to identify fake coffee. I don't suppose you ever got around to it, did you?

I read once that these big coffee chains make something like cents on a standard Cappuccino (less than a dollar) but it exponentially increases the more crap that is added, cream, syrups etc.
They also make heaps on food. Not surprisingly.

Can you buy fresh unroasted beans here? I believe that the roasted beans that you buy in the UK are over roasted/too dark/over cooked and 3x as expensive as the fresh ones.
Seen a dude roast his own by bolting 2 colanders together with studding and roasting over a bbq for 20 minutes until you hear the beans ''crack''.

It annoys me that an Americano costs more than an espresso... they're just taking an espresso and adding hot water, for 50/75 cents more.YaTingPom wrote:I read once that these big coffee chains make something like cents on a standard Cappuccino (less than a dollar) but it exponentially increases the more crap that is added, cream, syrups etc.

The big cups are more expensive to buy, heavier for staff to carry and more difficult to wash.Miguelito wrote:It annoys me that an Americano costs more than an espresso... they're just taking an espresso and adding hot water, for 50/75 cents more.YaTingPom wrote:I read once that these big coffee chains make something like cents on a standard Cappuccino (less than a dollar) but it exponentially increases the more crap that is added, cream, syrups etc.
