I don't know where to put this, so i'll put it here.
Yesterday, the Phnom Penh Post published a report on failing democracies with a map supplied by the Bertelsmann Stiftung Transformation Index labeling Cambodia a ‘hard autocracy’. I'll supply the link below.
Some facebook comments are ignorant among others, which is why I hate commenting on posts.
My issue with the map is the omission of highly defective western governments, namely the USA and Britain.

An Economy at risk...

It only looks at transitioning countries. You need to look elsewhere for America and Britain.
American democracy is failing. The courts are finally starting to notice. Democracy’s lost decade.
There is something profoundly wrong with the United States of America’s system of government. For proof, briefly take stock of the last ten years in American democracy, in which a combination of factors — the filibuster, the way we draw legislative districts, Senate malapportionment, and the Electoral College — converged to rob American voters of a meaningful ability to choose their own leaders......
The government of the United States no longer derives its powers from the consent of the governed. And by the time voters head to the polls in November to elect a new Congress, America will have existed in this state of profound undemocracy for nearly a decade.https://thinkprogress.org/democracys-lo ... 7ff06f064/
Britain’s Democratic Failure
CAMBRIDGE – The real lunacy of the United Kingdom’s vote to leave the European Union was not that British leaders dared to ask their populace to weigh the benefits of membership against the immigration pressures it presents. Rather, it was the absurdly low bar for exit, requiring only a simple majority. Given voter turnout of 70%, this meant that the leave campaign won with only 36% of eligible voters backing it.
This isn’t democracy; it is Russian roulette for republics. A decision of enormous consequence – far greater even than amending a country’s constitution (of course, the United Kingdom lacks a written one) – has been made without any appropriate checks and balances. https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/ ... refox-b-ab

It's not hard for America's democracy to be failing, because the USA is not a democracy, and never has been. It is a Republic.
Trump lost the popular vote by 3 million votes. The system failed when the delegates at the electoral college did not intervene to not elect Trump.
Democracy is a failed concept in general. With a true democracy all you need is 51% of the population to decide that the other 49% should be their slaves.
