Giant tree down or Norodom
Good thing there are so few trees left then. Those things are deadly.
This partly the reason they hack them back but you’ll always get some expats bitching about it.
pew, pew, pew, pew!
Cambodian's don't care a lot about stopping at a red traffic light. The tree fixed that.
No forestry expert, but looking at those roots gives it away - the hole dug for the tree was most likely too narrow & didn't allow for the roots to grow out into the harder compacted soil around the hole; narrows roots/less stability in a strong wind. If I'm not mistaken the tree roots should ultimately reflect the branches in their reach for a stable tree, I'm guessing urban tree planting is quite restricted on digging very wide holes to allow a tree of this size to ever have a hope of staying upright once the top end goes heavy/wide whilst the root is so narrow.

You dig a hole the size of the tree root. Even replanting mature trees (2/3 years old) only requires a hole the size of the root ball you’ve just dug up.
You can’t stop roots going wherever they please. Usually to a water source.
At a guess it’s a combination of things to caused it to fall. Top heavy, saturated root ball and wind.

That's fact,You are correct Mr Ya, also it's a naturally shallow rooted tree looks 20 years old never had a haircut.YaTingPom wrote:

The Pohutukawa, NZ native tree can grow really high anywhere, even on vertical cliffs. they establish a strong deep root base, and withstand all the elements Mother Nature throws at them. It's in their DNA.

First the trees were 'sucking all the air' causing fainting and things, now we have Suicide Timbers throwing themselves at cars - there are some dangers unique to this part of the word, unless the tree was felled by the deadly Khmer Kop Ricochetparkcar wrote:Once they get a taste for cars watch out.
