Bicycles banned in front of Royal Palace?

It seems they’ve extended the gates across the sidewalks on one end, and have guards on the other end, banning bicycles from entering the area in front of the Royal Palace from st 240 to St 184. There’s a sign in Khmer that they point to that apparently says no bicycles.

Why do this? And is it permanent?

I thought they'd always been sort of banned. I've had a few half-hearted attempts to stop me and you have to jump up on the pavement like a cool kid to get out at the southern end. The north end has a nice ramp up.

Yea - bicycles on the very wide, car free road = problem.

Motos on crowded sidewalk = no problem.

I offen cycle along there, never had a problem.

Probably back to normal in a week, just like with the ban on flogging pigeon food.

I recently got stopped from walking on the sidewalk on the semi pedestrianised Street down the side of the palace - one across from 240.
Police said I had to walk on the road, sidewalk cannot. I said but it’s not too safe, and he replied but no traffic. Just as he said that 2 policemen came along on motorbikes side by side talking to each other and nearly drove into me.
I turned to look at the first policeman and he just smiled and shrugged his shoulders.

Excellent, there needs to be a global initiative to purge the world of those lycra idiots - let the Royal Palace be the epicentre of the resistance!!

Sucks that one can't bring their kid there to bike around anymore. Morticia and I have been doing so with Pubert since he was old enough to sit on a bike.

Wat Botum it is then I guess.

Absolutely, should have qualified of course that Pubert & chums naturally need to be able to ride in a safe area, for this purpose there is of course a good reason to allow kids on bikes in the area. But only until they are old enough to sit on their own v-twin, pocket rocket or rice cooker!

Perhaps the campaign slogan can be "Yes to Pubert (pic of Felgerson), No to Hubert!* (pic of a lycra adorned adult on a bicycle)" :-)

* anyone who looks old enough to be a cyclo rider also permitted, but only on a non-geared clapped out banger!

Just pedalled through unimpeded, and without fucking lycra. Linen shirt and best khaki Bermudas matter of fact.
But it was only me. No kids playing, no pigeons, nothing at all.
