Feeling nostalgic, and that they can't last much longer. Just wondering about parts of Sihanoukville/Kompong Som, that haven't radically changed in the last 10-20 years. Can anyone post recent (in last 2-3 years)pictures of little changed buildings, or areas. Thanks!
(I clicked through the Google Maps link Rarendi posted on the Prince Group thread, and saw the Koh Pua Hotel (and Restaurant, more recently called Treasure Island) was almost unchanged since UNTAC! However, the most recent Maps Sat. photo, May 2020, showed a bulldozed forrest from the bridge almost to the hotel. Mid 90's the Hotel rooms, like most of K. Som were already run down and mosquito infested, but it was nice to have a cute little beach of your own for the family. The restaurant was never good, much better crab at the old Sokha beach restaurant, but the ho-hum food meant the beach was always empty. Except for occasional music video film crews where we could meet and chat with the stars.)
Thinking about it, showing little changed BEFORE/AFTER shots, likely with much different contexts, might be a twist on the also interesting but more common, same location but TOTALLY different shots that are now all too easy from that part of the country.
Less changed Sihanoukville
Dont have photos but i drove in a couple of months ago and was completely lost and that's after 26 years of very regular visits.
You just can't see where you are because you can't see the coast from most places. Eventually i spotted the sign for the otherwise almost unrecognisable Sokha hotel and got my bearings.
If it's nostalgia you're after forget it.

Myanmar, is the most exciting place left in SEA for travel.
I've toured the rest extensively.
I guess Vietnam is interesting to me because it's so different/unwesternized, but also The Basil Faulty of SEA in terms of service.

You couldn’t see the coast because the layout of the land unless you’re up the hill.

I felt it was more being in corridors of hideously designed high rise buildings around streets I used to navigate like a street rat.
I'm sure you're quite right though.

Just watch the road check points in Karen state. Bit dicey for further travel plans.
I loved the coffee shops in Yangon for people watching.
