Fear of vaccination
Amongst Khmer folk of a certain age there appears to be a real fear of the COVID vaccine.
In the 40-60 age demographic I reckon maybe about 40% say they won't get it. Their rationale is based upon Facebook mumbo jumbo, rumour, innuendo and gossip.
They won't listen to any alternative view and are resolute.
This gives my organisation a bit of an issue. Some of my senior staff are suggesting that we make vaccination a condition of employment (unless medical advise recommends against it for that individual). I'm uncertain about this approach.
Everybody over the age of 50 here seems to have diagnosed themselves with hypertension, high blood pressure, diabetes or something similar. And they reckon that this should exempt them from vaccination.
Any other business owners started thinking about this?

Explain them about the "side effects" of the real Virus Covid-19.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Tue Mar 30, 2021 10:41 amAmongst Khmer folk of a certain age there appears to be a real fear of the COVID vaccine.

Actually, not yet.
All the Khmer staff I've talked to are keen, and a few with other jobs have been able to get it already. For other diseases, they certainly vaccinate their kids! They all know of families who lost kids (or who have damaged family members) to vaccine preventable disease,
Some of my American expats,...
It's a hard one, certainly persistent persuasion, is a better option than compulsion. Interested in learning what you decide.

But it's the self diagnosis that concerns me. Just because they.have illness envy of their neighbour and fancy the look of those little night coloured pills
Fire them, and replace them with staff who aren’t stupid.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Tue Mar 30, 2021 10:41 amAmongst Khmer folk of a certain age there appears to be a real fear of the COVID vaccine.

There is a real noticeable difference in attitudes of younger staff and older staffGuest9999 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 30, 2021 11:17 amActually, not yet.

Younger are all for it. Older are extremely hesitant.

Probably wouldn't even need to fire them, most of these guys will be on autorenewing 2 year contracts which will end towards the end of this year.scobienz wrote: ↑Tue Mar 30, 2021 12:45 pmFire them, and replace them with staff who aren’t stupid.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Tue Mar 30, 2021 10:41 amAmongst Khmer folk of a certain age there appears to be a real fear of the COVID vaccine.

Maybe vaccination proof could just be a prerequisite for renewal.
Check the labor law on seniority because you’re in for a shocker.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Tue Mar 30, 2021 12:57 pmProbably wouldn't even need to fire them, most of these guys will be on autorenewing 2 year contracts which will end towards the end of this year.

Make sure you change their titles if you do extend because after working for 2 years iirc they’re pretty much unfireable unless the whole position disappears.

What is the average time it takes to get a pharma drug fully tested I wonder?
Were the blood clot incidences for the covid vaccine disproven?
Are the pharma companies still immune to lawsuits?
A couple of guys at my workplace said they might not get the jab.
Maybe that won't come as a surprise though.
Sniff.

"I don't care what the people are thinking, i ain't drunk i'm just drinking"
Making vaccination a precondition of employment seems extreme.
It's not like there is or has been a meaningful outbreak in this country.
Those over 50 probably do have all the health conditions they speak of, and quite rightly regard low quality Chinese vaccines with suspicion.

But, If they are on a 2 year contract and that contracts expires then surely they won't be fired. Surely that is just contract expiry....Alexandra wrote: ↑Tue Mar 30, 2021 1:04 pmCheck the labor law on seniority because you’re in for a shocker.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Tue Mar 30, 2021 12:57 pmProbably wouldn't even need to fire them, most of these guys will be on autorenewing 2 year contracts which will end towards the end of this year.

I have HR people who can work out the nitty gritty though.
Look, the whole country is a basket case, so there's little to no need to be surprised.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Tue Mar 30, 2021 12:44 pmIt's possible.kinard wrote: ↑Tue Mar 30, 2021 11:44 amThat is more than likely fact.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Tue Mar 30, 2021 10:41 amEverybody over the age of 50 here seems to have ... hypertension, high blood pressure, diabetes...

Labour Law section 67. A fixed duration contract must have a stated end date and be no longer than two years. If it is renewed so that the employment is longer than two years then it is deemed no longer a fixed duration contract and the person in effect becomes a permanent employee.
