The Kampot crowd need reigning in. They are showing open dissent. They will have to face the consequences.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Heard there’s an expat opening a school just for unvaccinated kids in Kampot.

Poor Kampot. I used to live there six years ago. Everyone was very friendly and it was easy to go out and chat. I miss that a lot. Nobody was ever aggressive or crazy back then. So sad to read that people are breaking down.... I was thinking of moving back there... Or Kep... But maybe not now. I really like Kampot. But now, with that construction and the constant road traffic dustiness that wasn't there before...
I guess there is always Koh Rong. Just have to figure out how to get food and electricity... ....Mmmm, maybe somewhere along the river, up at Chhlong...... or, Stung Treung... is the way to go. Hide away totally unnoticed in some leafy riverside old house... Being close to Laos, would be nice to make getaways to the 4,000 islands, etc, etc...

Orichá,
I'm sure Kampot and Kep are still great, just not in the same way they once were. Sihanoukville feels 98% different to what it did just ten years ago. Kampot in ten years will have great differences, but I suspect it will still be recognizable. If you live there a couple more years, you can still try the sticks near Laos later. (I like Sralao II, on the Mekong West bank North of the Kong Falls. You can buy things in Kip, and beer Lao in bottles by the case is the favourite chilled beverage.)

Yes, I'm sure that will go down well with MOEYs.

Not sure, but probably the unvaccinated kid school is run by the unvaccinated Hug clinic, so all good.

Yes, north of Kratie about 20kms are the rapids on the east bank, so lovely. I will have to check out the west bank next time I head up that way...Guest9999 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 13, 2021 2:46 pmOrichá,

The only thing about the Mekong is the threat of flooding... When travelling up the Mekong in Laos 2019/20 compared to an earlier trip, the banks have suffered massive erosion in places... almost destroying "the bamboo trail" in spots...
...One needs to look for a high spot with space far enough back from the river... I suppose way out in the sticks between Stung Treng and Kratie, you could find almost cheap land, if buying an old house or leasing a little plot from someone... but food... haha...

Very naive if it’s true. I hear it’s from a long term (presumably unvaccinated) expat.
It’s tantamount to dissing government.

There are stringent regulations in place in regards to opening any school. You would have to be out of your mind to think you could open a school outside of ministry guidelines and licensing.YaTingPom wrote: ↑Sat Nov 13, 2021 7:21 pmVery naive if it’s true. It sounds so dumb I'm not convinced it is actually real.
Then again Kampot-based foreigners seem to have always been on another planet.

I'd love to read more about this utter stupidity. Does anyone have a link to more information?Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Sun Nov 14, 2021 12:04 amThere are stringent regulations in place in regards to opening any school. I've gone from accepting "divergent vaccine opinions" as the ravings of the daft but have switched to outright mockery of the willingly unvaccinated as time goes on and it becomes increasingly obvious that their narrative is highly curated—probably by someone/group going with the Bannon "Flood the zone with shit" approach.

It might not be an official type of school but on the quiet.
Either way it won’t work.
Go fuck yourself bogan.
