When will you go "home"
Hanky
If someone offered you a very good job that paid well in teaching or lecturing ( or something else you would enjoy doing etc ) and it offered you and the lad a safe route home ( without the unknowns of job hunting etc ) and even more if it was in a part of Ireland you wanted to be in........what would you do ?

Income has to be a factor. And where 'home' is.
Tahiti/Mauritius if super rich, but UK/US? Wouldn't even consider it. The numbers of people living here that are from there speak for themselves. In Europe, Italy, Sweden or Norway, Iceland.
But with present income, Cambodia is great. Very friendly, mostly chilled people, low violent crime rate, lots of freedom.

No amount of money or security could make up for the differences in weather.ricecakes wrote: ↑Fri Dec 17, 2021 5:08 amHanky

Nowadays I can’t even see myself going home for holidays when pre-covid times I would visit at least twice a year.

That's why the Northern Territory and the top end are the best places to live in Australia! Down south Perth.
Yeah, as long as it not France.Barang_doa_slae wrote: ↑Fri Dec 17, 2021 7:33 amNowadays I can’t even see myself going home for holidays when pre-covid times I would visit at least twice a year.
Full of Frenchies and garlic.
pew, pew, pew, pew!
I don’t even rate Cambodia as being in the hottest places I have lived and worked.
Manila and Hanoi ( both with a lot of concrete and ultra high humidity ) and now Darwin ( with its famous build up to the wet ) eclipse Cambodia in both heat and humidity.

I assure you there are expats living here with literal millions in liquid. You forget that millions here might as well be billions in the west. There's also the criminal aspect I'd guess, Cambodia is an incredibly easy country to use ill gotten gains without raising eyebrows.
Care to enlighten us where you would live if money wasn't a factor?
You can do both if school isn't in the way. For instance Oct/March in SEA, April/September in the West.rektj00 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 17, 2021 5:55 amNo amount of money or security could make up for the differences in weather.ricecakes wrote: ↑Fri Dec 17, 2021 5:08 amHanky

Or else a few 5-6 weeks trips per year, which is what I did pre-covid.
The problem with living in Europe and SE-Asia is the best months of the year are the same in both places (Dec-Feb). Planning to move back to SE-Asia and the only thing I'll miss is winter (sports)

I wouldn't be interested really, it's okay to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.ricecakes wrote: ↑Fri Dec 17, 2021 5:08 amHanky

I spent so long in SEA, that Ireland and Europe became the new exotic, when i took a job on the coast of Kerry.
I had 3 weeks of some 1st world, where have all the people gone, anxiety, and then it gradually sank in how easier things were here, in comparison.
What about when you reach old old bones in the KOW?
I wouldn't fancy shuffling around with a zimmer frame in The Penh, or driving a mobility scooter.

How much did it cost to build or buy your home? Poll.
