TAXI4YOU / WE Taxi Cambodia
TAXI4YOU / WE Taxi Cambodia
Does anybody know the business model of Taxi4You Cambodia?
Are they a company or are they resellers/middlemen?
They have a slogan that says "The largest taxi company in Cambodia"
They also have sister companies names "Taxi4you Thailand" & "Taxi4you Vietnam" which also claim to be "The largest taxi company in Thailand" and "The largest taxi company in Vietnam" respectively when blatantly they are not even a medium sized company/if indeed they are a company at all
Whenever an individual asks for a taxi on any facebook group some NPC, often looking like a Eurotrash/Koh Rong/snooky refugee from their profile will pop up and post some generic words of recommendation, often replete with insincere exclamation marks. Usually the same people time and again, in fact, and never a Khmer, Viet or Thai as one may expect given the company names
They also take a 50% deposit up front. I suspect that they are a grifting company taking the 50% deposit for themselves and their referees and booking local drivers to work for the remaining 50%
Have any other people noticed this over the past 12 months or so

The NPC spam campaign has caught my attention too. They’re not new accounts, I guess they get paid or help their friends.
Wonder when the bus companies will return to normal fares, still blaming ripoffs on COVID
I’d imagine they’re an agent of sorts with a few cars/drivers and just concentrate on advertising and spamming every group.
That business model is hard enough in the west let alone in Cambodia, which is why there isn’t an existing company like that now.
Far too many variables to make it work.
They’ll either disappear or plod along.

pew, pew, pew, pew!
So they'll either stay or go, you reckon?
Some people think I'm funny, some others don't and the rest are in-between.

No. In a business sense it won’t work, as I said. It’s not about if they will stay or go it’s about it working as a business model, which is what we are talking about.yesnno wrote: ↑Thu Jun 16, 2022 8:58 pmSo they'll either stay or go, you reckon?

Run along.

I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
And so it begins.
So let’s break it down.
$50 to Kampot. $15 fuel, one way. (That’s a very conservative estimate) plus wear and tear, insurance, food etc.
Doubtful they’d have a return within 24 hours which means overnight (multiple days), even if they do that, extra costs.
So $30 plus additional costs. They barely make minimum wage.

Even if they don’t have return fare booked then they can come back and pick people up on way. There is also little extras like delivering parcels and letters between the 2 locations.YaTingPom wrote: ↑Tue Oct 11, 2022 9:10 pmAnd so it begins.

Things are never as simple as they seem, there are always a few more little extra hustles going on.
In theory yes but there’s thousands of guys doing this all after the same work, and willing to undercut to get the job.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Tue Oct 11, 2022 9:36 pmEven if they don’t have return fare booked then they can come back and pick people up on way. Most regular work like parcels and packages is sown up by the big guys.
If there was money to be made in taxis the big players would get involved.
Unless you know first hand what’s going on. Please share.

You’ve lost me there, it’s only a 3-and-a-bit hour drive to Kampot. You could be there and back by mid afternoon and still get a full evening’s Grabbing done.

Maybe in ideal circumstances. It can often take an hour or more just to get out of the capital. And then there are all sorts of factors that can extend the drive further.nerdlinger wrote: ↑Tue Oct 11, 2022 11:30 pmYou’ve lost me there, it’s only a 3-and-a-bit hour drive to Kampot.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

No specific knowledge, other than I know that when foreigners try to work out household income for Khmer people we always are out by a significant percentage.YaTingPom wrote: ↑Tue Oct 11, 2022 9:51 pmIn theory yes but there’s thousands of guys doing this all after the same work, and willing to undercut to get the job.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Tue Oct 11, 2022 9:36 pmEven if they don’t have return fare booked then they can come back and pick people up on way. There are invariably little extra grey market income streams that we have no idea about.
I know 2 guys running taxis, they are main earners in family and they seem to be doing pretty well. One has 4 kids at a good private school and is forever buying land. He’s an orphan so no family income…
