Grab app drivers
It seems pretty common when it’s busy and/or raining for the tuktuk that accepted a request while 10 minutes away just decides to bugger off in the opposite direction. My assumption is they picked up a fare from the street for a higher rate than Grab was paying.
However, it’s happened 3 times in the last dozen or so trips that a driver who was literally 50 metres away when they picked it up on a sunny mid-afternoon, then proceeded to immediately fuck off in the exact opposite direction never to be seen again, and without cancelling. Always seems to be 5-star drivers too.
Any theories on what’s going on there? My guess is they already had someone in and are hoping that I’ll cancel and they can collect a cancellation fee for doing nothing. Any other ideas?

The driver app lets drivers rate passengers so maybe you’ve had some 1 star reviews?

They are running the passapp and grab app at the same time.
They accept your fare on grab whilst they still have an ongoing passapp fare.
It is a pain when this happens, though I do give them a little bit of lee-way. If after a few mins they are still getting further and further away i cancel and rebook.
I don’t expect them to be sitting waiting for my specific fare, but then I also don’t want them to hog my app if their current drop off is still a fair bit away.

If that were the case why would they accept the fare in the first place?

Just checked my ride history, it’s actually a whopping 3 out of the last 8 rides the driver cancelled on me!
Maybe they won’t know those details until they accept it.nerdlinger wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 5:11 pmIf that were the case why would they accept the fare in the first place?

They are only penalized if they cancel the ride themselves. Order a new ride with another app and keep the fuck offers booked.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 4:38 pmIf after a few mins they are still getting further and further away i cancel and rebook.

Why would it work like that? Doesn’t make any sense.YaTingPom wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 5:20 pmMaybe they won’t know those details until they accept it.nerdlinger wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 5:11 pmIf that were the case why would they accept the fare in the first place?

Incidentally it wouldn’t surprise me if my rating was low.
The route Grab provides will get them to my apartment building if they follow it, but most ignore it in favour of Google maps (presumably it has better traffic info). Problem is Google tries to take them up a narrow alley full of market stalls, so when they see it they try to make us get out early. So far I’ve always insisted they go round the block and use the proper road, but maybe I’ll have to suck it up and walk if that’s what’s causing all my rides to get dropped.

Grab's location services have glitches. They often tell the driver you are a few blocks from your actual location. I've had many of those really annoying ones where they take ages to head in your direction, then take a wrong turn and start going completely the wrong way. Other times it looks like they haven't moved for ten minutes and suddenly they pull up next you because the map never refreshed.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
This. Happens with PassApp too. There's a bit of a wifi black hole in our borey and tuktuk drivers get within a block of us and don't know where to go. Happens time and time again.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 11:14 pmGrab's location services have glitches. They often tell the driver you are a few blocks from your actual location. No joke I've had this happen to me with a Grab driver. He kept doing circles in the opposite direction as I was watching on my phone.... I was thinking what the fuck is he doing?! Wife called and had to give him directions. Guy took forever to show up to a super easy location and when he arrived his phone was upside down..... He was trying to follow the gps line but couldn't figure it out because his phone was upside down he kept going the wrong way.
