Good point. As I was typing possible names I thought of names many would not like to see own the forum. I think some people can be understood as people who would not do that, but I take the point that with some interested parties you wouldn’t know.

Who knows what will happens to the forum ?
It contains a wealth of knowledge and experiences that remain relevant and it would be a shame for it to just disappear.
A few years back another Cambodian forum that was being closed was gifted to me,
It contained a large amount of information on topics of interest to me and other members that I did not wish to see disappear
It costs me less than $100 a year for hosting, registration etc,to keep the information available.
So I hope that Alexandra does something simular k440

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

Years ago, I was interested in owing the site, especially one time mid 2000's when KIR had a hissy fit and said he would get rid of it (he sobered up).
These days, my interests in Cambodia have waned, I am hardly there (I prefer Thailand for the golf). In addition, I am super busy with work. There is no way the time spent on this forum/website could ever compensate me for the income I would lose whilst working on it. In this respect I agree with Alexandra. Alexandra has a valid point, basically anyone who could make it work as a business probably does not want it.

Note to self: Must be nice to morons.
That was my plan. Thank you.

If you owned this website it’d be the death knell for all.LaudJohn wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 6:22 pmYears ago, I was interested in owing the site, especially one time mid 2000's when KIR had a hissy fit and said he would get rid of it (he sobered up).

That’s a ridiculous argument. You’re closing it down because of you let someone else run it they might sell to someone you don’t like?
If you’re happy to close it down, why the fuck would you care?
Do you think former owners put on clauses to prohibit buyers from selling to certain future buyers?

If you guys don’t have the energy or commitment to bring it back to life, find someone local to give it a go. As you said yourself, running costs are next to nothing.
You both know the site can be profitable - it just needs effort. Effort to get new material, effort to solicit advertising. Effort to put some decent mods in place who are equally committed.
If you can’t be bothered with it, give it to LL or someone who does have the commitment on the ground, rather than killing a two decade project because you’re bored and out of country.
I tend to agree with this as well. Probably Scobienz writing.
However I am not sure it will ever be as profitable as it once was. The Bayon Pearnik died due to lack of advertising revenue. PP is way way different to what it once was, however that said, the site could possibly be pivoted to appeal to the new generation of expats. and advertisers.
Yes it’s me and yes I think A and logos are acting like pussy whipped girls. And I think you’re wrong - of course it can be profitable. I had it from 2014 to 2017 and it made good money every month in those three years. As logos well knows. The accounts are presumably still in the Admin forum.
It took minimum effort. If we had hired a Cambodian ad person capable of approaching banks and telcos etc we could have done much better too.
Why not get Pedros involved? He has a track record of running a site, was good on news generally and would be well received
Congrats scoffer

Seems like a good idea if there was a chance of breathing life into a forum.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 6:59 pm
