Khmer440 is not closing down
good to hear...trashing this site for his ego should not be rewarded with monetary gain. I would suggest that 440 fight back with more informative content and less bile (tho I have noticed the snarky posts often contain real info without rose colored view). Bottom line for me is the massive change in the last ten or so years in the region which favors $ over reality. Malls and condos draw a different crowd.

“440” is all those who post. To fight back requires those who post to generate the K440 content worth reading.Gasser wrote: ↑Sat May 06, 2023 6:28 amgood to hear...trashing this site for his ego should not be rewarded with monetary gain. ‘Less bile’ some like the bile, some don’t. The CARETAKER said on assuming his/her duties that posters need to wear their big boy/girl undies and toughen up (I paraphrase), so I suspect the bile will remain.

Caretaker asked for quiz creators - I’m useless at it - I did attempt but don’t have the knowledge to do it. Maybe others quietly had a go in the background and reached the same conclusion about themselves - or maybe nobody had an attempt and people just expect to be spoonfed ‘content’

The quiz was an experiment, and will be repeated. It showed up some more bugs in a very buggy website.violet wrote: ↑Sat May 06, 2023 7:03 amCaretaker asked for quiz creators - I’m useless at it - I did attempt but don’t have the knowledge to do it. The good news is that a deep clean going back through 20 years of posts is underway. When that is finished, then the next phase of the new website design will begin. It's either scrap the archives and start afresh or go through each and every post manually and then build the new on top.
I expect most users would like to keep the majority of content which ranges from poorly written reviews of long-closed restaurants to the wonderful musings of Gavin Mac.

Sounds promising.CARETAKER wrote: ↑Sat May 06, 2023 7:19 amThe quiz was an experiment, and will be repeated. For the record,
I’d prefer the more laborious manual method to enable the content to remain

he early years were the best, it was raw, just like Cambodia was at the time

"We are turning into a nation of whimpering slaves to Fear—fear of war, fear of poverty, fear of random terrorism, or suddenly getting locked up in a military detention camp on vague charges of being a Terrorist sympathizer." HST
I'm here for finding answers for particular questions and learning about life and culture in Cambodia (And sometimes about its neighbours), but I don't mind snarky comments as long as they are written tongue is cheek. Virtual 'at each other's throats is just as unpleasant as the physical act and continuing a spat that started in real-life without any background info is just boring.
