Re the images of people on ventilators and full morgues - my take is that the vast majority of people haven't even visited a morgue (or seen someone on a ventilator, like why would you) and even seen pictures of morgues and wouldn’t know that they’re pretty full most of the time, with dead people.
We were all force fed those images on every news outlet.
I don’t know if there were more people dying or not. The media absolutely loved it though.
Glad it’s all behind us.
Now for the nuclear winter…
Your experience during Covid restrictions
Lost a lot of savings to keep our business running (restaurant). Wasting a lot of time trying to homeschool a 7 year old while running a business and looking after a 2 year old.
Once nearly ended up in the covid camp. A next-door hotel was a quarantaine stay for incoming flights but people went awol. Doctors wanted to test the whole street even though the houses and businesses were shuttered that time. So we had no awol contact.... We refused testing, nearly got our door bashed in. After a lot of yelling they gave up after 2 hours.
A hotel jumper luckily jumped on the opposite side of it or he had been coming through our tin roof from 7 stories up.
So yeah, happy times....

Of course notYaTingPom wrote: ↑Thu Feb 16, 2023 3:03 pmAnd did your “rather large circle” all get tested? I doubt it, unless they were traveling.lazy feck og wrote: ↑Thu Feb 16, 2023 1:06 pm*from my rather large circle during the 2020 and 2021 period.YaTingPom wrote: ↑Thu Feb 16, 2023 12:38 pmLazy feck og wrote: ↑Thu Feb 16, 2023 10:33 amBeing in Kampot we didn't really observe any restrictions. Drank and smoked in crowded bars, shared spoons and forks with strangers, passed spliffs around etc
Only had two brief curfew spells where we had to get out of the pub by 10pm
Nobody got covid. Was a nice but weird time
Of course folk caught covid
Did you ever get tested?
I know for a fact some barangs tested positive but chose to keep silent.
Why get tested if one isn't sick?

I first started getting symptoms of Covid New Year's eve going into 2020. The fever and chills lasted 16 days before I folded and finally went to Royal Phnom Penh hospital where I was diagnosed with pneumonia. If I would have waited another 24 hours, I wouldn't have been able to get to the hospital on my own. I contracted Covid a second time almost to the day nine months later from a family member. Three of the family members ended up in the hospital with respiratory problems that time.
I remember during Khmer New Year 2020, I couldn't find one laundry shop in Phnom Penh that would take my clothes because I was Barang. They didn't have any problems 3 days earlier.
I also did a 2 week quarantine at a Chinese hotel with awful Chinese peasant food.

Covid restrictions time was very good here.
My booze and food stock was plentiful, partying with nearby friends, doing joyrides at night, even clubbing..
