Sihanoukville
We are visiting in Jun and looking to stay somewhere nice at the beach. Reviews online aren't particularly inspiring. Looking at Otres mainly. Anyone stay there recently? Would be for a large family and no real budget - just something nice with a pool. Thanks!

May I ask why? Genuinely curious. I know its reputation and that it's been overrun by Chinese and that no one really goes there, but is there really no place at all to stay even if you are willing to pay? Are the nearby islands any better? Thanks!MONEYBACKGUARANTEE wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 9:55 pmStrongly recommend choosing a different destination.KraoyVeyang wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 3:24 amWe are visiting in Jun and looking to stay somewhere nice at the beach. The only place I would stay in Sihanoukville is the Sahaa Beach Resort in Otres. Western owned and a little self contained oasis.
Oh look another let’s bash Sihanoukville thread, “even though I’ve not been there for 5 years since the place was a mess” etc etc.
There’s lots of places to stay and eat for all budgets. The beach is cleaner. The roads are amazing. It doesn’t smell.
Get over it haters.

Papa Pepo guesthouse is nice place, I eat there often, great Italian food.

Otres still have multiple very nice hotels. The beach is clean and it's very nice with family. Here are few places I have personally stayed this and last year.
- Sok Sabay Resort Budget friendly place 200 meters from the beach. Bit old, but still nice budget option within walking distance from the beach.
- Sea Breeze Resort Nice, mid-budget place. Western run place. Basically right at the beach. You need to cross street as it's with all the places at Otres now days.
- Naiya Sea Resort. Bit more expensive, bit more modern than Sea Breeze Resort. Very nice as well.
- White Boutique Resort. Bit nicer than above ones and also slightly more expensive.
- Sahaa Beach Resort Very nice place as well. Bungalow's with private pool are especially nice.
Sea Breeze is probably my favourite of these. You can usually get room $40-$60 depending is it a weekend or weekday.
And yes, most weekends the beach is packed. Locals come from Phnom Penh. But weekdays you get the beach to yourself.

It's not really overrun by Chinese. It was like that in 2018-2020 but not anymore. Lot of local families go there on weekends. More and more western expats have returned there too.KraoyVeyang wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 11:12 pmMay I ask why? Genuinely curious. To be honest, near by islands are not much better now days in my opinion. Sihanoukville has multiple food options in different price ranges, same with hotels, and pretty clean beaches and good roads. Islands are nice for one-two night "off-grid" trip. But if you want to have longer beach holiday, Sihanoukville is the place now days in Cambodia.
Let me know if you want dining recommendations too.

Thanks gents. Booked in at Naiya. Had to mix in the opinions of in-laws. Appreciate the feedback @rogerrabbit and others. Will be glad for dining recs if you have them...
