Riverside Bistro and FCC/Foreign Correspondent’s Club closed down post-pandemic
Have both of these fine institutions either closed down now for good or moved premises?
I heard that the old FCC building is being developed by a company called Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation (OCIC), which is a Cambodian company with ties to the Cambodian government?
And that the new FCC is now located further down Sisowath Quay two blocks or so does anyone have any links to some photos of the new FCC building I can’t find any online?
Such a shame to see the damage that Coronavirus has done to so many great places in Phnom Penh,Cambodia and all of South-East Asia the lockdowns were a total failure ultimately as countries like Sweden proved eventually?
The only positive thing to have come out of the whole pandemic is that it chased the majority of Chinese gangsters out of the new Sihanoukville, something that the authorities didn’t seem capable of doing?
How many other great and treasured bars and restaurants are no longer trading can we start a comprehensive list here,so that travellers to the Kingdom know what not to look for anymore?

I'm pretty sure it's under renovation. Taking just longer than expected due to covid. It has not moved anywhere.

It feels like it has been under renovation for the best part of 5 years. I know covid took out a few years in the middle of that… but still it’s a long time.rogerrabbit wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 8:51 pmI'm pretty sure it's under renovation. Anybody remember when it actually closed?

It closed long before COVID was a thing. The company had great plans for the Phnom Penh and Siem Reap locations. Apparently they blew so much on the Siem Reap branch that there was no money left to develop the one in the capital. So it has remained shrouded by green netting since. I always liked the place but it is not the colonial historical wonder some make it out to be. It was knocked together from two Chinese shop-houses in 1993, and because of their deceitful shenanigans most journalists stopped going there not too long after.

It looks great but from what I can see they’re planning to just switch the bar from one side to the other, plus remove the wooden bar-type structure from the balcony rail if memory serves me correctly?rogerrabbit wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 8:51 pmI'm pretty sure it's under renovation. How can they be a total failure if we can't base it on what would have happened if no lockdowns happened?

Sihanoukville was "saved" because of the ban on gambling, that the government implemented, not COVID.
Businesses close all the time. COVID just exhilarated the badly performing ones with everyone too scared to start up.
Keep posting nonsense though. You are very good at it.

Both FCC and Riverside Bistro closed before COVID, and there's no proof that OCIC has anything to do with either. Just another shit post.

I think Riverside Bistro closed in 2020 after the pandemic started.
This was the official announcement, sent in October 2019:
A major renovation of our second heritage hotel, FCC Phnom Penh will begin at the beginning of October with the anticipated re-opening in December 2020.
The reimagined, upscale FCC Phnom Penh, with architectural design by Asma Architecture and interior design by Bloom Architecture, will offer a modern restaurant with Atrium, Sky Bar overlooking the Bassac River, gym, swimming pool, gallery, multi-functional meeting room and 35 new, stylish guest rooms and suites.
With four impressive suites and exclusive areas for high end entertainment, the French colonial ‘Mansion’ overlooking the National Museum and Royal Palace will be renovated and preserved as an integral part of the new FCC Phnom Penh, offering landmark luxury in the capital, while retaining its signature revelry and charm.
Starting mid-November and throughout the renovation of the main hotel and restaurant facilities, we will be opening a pop up restaurant on the ground level of the FCC where diners can enjoy fusion Asian and Spanish dishes.
The FCC Collection embodies the best of local culture, coupled with stylish accommodation and authentic well-crafted cuisine. FCC Angkor opened in June this year as the first renovated heritage hotel within the FCC Collection and customer feedback has been exceptional.
We will continue to update you with news of the FCC Phnom Penh renovation and look forward to seeing you again in November at our Pop-up Restaurant.

I'm not so sure. Once Andy was shipped back to Germany (2018?) it only opened as an estate agents for a while and then briefly as a crappy restaurant. Andy was a crazy fuck but he managed the place well for a long time. It was a shambles after.Srey Bourque wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2023 8:21 pmI think Riverside Bistro closed in 2020 after the pandemic started.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Not sure the very frequent staff turnover and the number of verbally abused customers validate your statement.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2023 9:54 pmAndy was a crazy fuck but he managed the place well for a long time.
