half the local area been without power since 1am after some crafty tealeaves stole the high voltage cables. Several dogs dying since yesterday. RIP Gary Wilmutt, scourge of the et jai.
Pretty brazen move, and not without risk of death.
On the plus side, my house is wired to a different local grid but has become an electricity refugee centre for phone charging, shirt ironing and wi-fi.
Same thing happened in the school where the wife works a few months ago- the place finally got wored up to the mains, and a week later all the cables were gone. After they were replaced, they pikey toerags came back and pinched the lot again.
Yours sincerely,

Unrelated to the Darjeeling of your wires, but I was just thinking the other day house robberies seem to be way down. I haven't heard of anyone having their stuff fished through the window bars or seen one of those amazing spider men flying up to the 4th floor on a brick wall in ages.
Reported robberies against foreigners may of dropped.
But I'm of the opinion it has not decreased -
Perhaps their is subtle pressure from the powers in control to reduce reporting of these events
( Just speculation on my behalf )
Khmer upon Khmer theft, robbery & assault is still prevalent and perhaps increasing.
COVID along with the reduction in tourist dollars has finally hit home.
Some of my extended Khmer family hold senior Police positions and they have commented upon the increase in theft and disorder.
When people are hungry they take greater risks.

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

Hundreds of thousands of people lost their jobs during the pandemic. Thousands of businesses closed, salaries for the lucky ones who kept their jobs were often reduced.
To expect anything less than a rise in crime would be naïve.
I do think that as the more of the rich move into gated compounds and apartments/ villas with 24-hour security, the situation us mere mortals find ourselves in becomes less and less of a concern to them.

Hey. I don’t often make diabetes jokes, but when I do, it’s usually in bad taste.

It’s one of the poorest countries in the world what do you expect, where a large percentage of the population live on less than USD $1 per day?
Maybe buy a generator for the next time it happens, which like with most thefts will be just after it’s replaced by brand new cabling?
These type of thefts occur regularly in the West as well they’re certainly not exclusive to the Kingdom.

Even then it was bollocks. Those stats are worked out by dividing official data by population....there was very poor official data and what went on on the ground was another matter with the unofficial economy accounting for most people's daily income. Rurally, actual cash was in short supply as many people lived off the land and by barter.Mike Farce wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 7:13 amYou're about 20 years out with that $1 a day nonsense.Chroy Changvarite wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 1:30 amIt’s one of the poorest countries in the world what do you expect, where a large percentage of the population live on less than USD $1 per day?
