Awesome the return of the Ford Capri!!!
Ford 'to relaunch the classic Capri': Iconic 1970s 'working man's Porsche' still loved by celebrities to get electric makeover as it returns after 40 years costing £40,000 and doing 0-60 in 6.4 seconds
The new 300 horsepower version will still have the classic four headlights
Will also have digital touch screen, wireless charging point and massaging seats
The classic Ford Capri is set to be relaunched with an eco-friendly makeover for the first time in 40 years.
The iconic 1970s car - commonly referred to as the 'working man's Porsche' due to its affordability - is expected to cost roughly £40,000.
It will be re-marketed as an electric sports crossover capable of reaching 0 to 62mph in about 6.4 seconds, a Ford staff member has revealed to the Sun.
The new 300 horsepower version will boast rear-wheel drive and the classic four headlights like the original version.
Unlike the gas-guzzling 1970s Capri, this will be fitted with a digital touch screen, wireless phone charging point and massaging seats.
A Ford spokesman revealed that while they don't want to speculate on future cars, Ford is 'on a mission to make electric iconic'.

True, but even so, the description doesn't seem particularly apt. "Budget porsche" may be more accurate, though I doubt the marketing gurus at Ford would be too fond of that.Hanno wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 8:34 amAll relative: a Porsche 911 starts at 89,000 quid in the UK.Starving Pelican wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 8:29 amA "working man's Porsche" that costs 40 thousand quid?

Petrol tanker drivers in the UK earn £52K a year...I read in a recent report in the news.
I am way out of touch with wages if that's the case..
but if your on minimum wage £10.42/hr(from this April) and manage to get a 40 hour week a year you will pull in £21K.....
Yes the cheap Porsche was the 924

It’s the original that was informally called that. There doesn’t seem to be any indication that the new one is being marketed under that slogan.Starving Pelican wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 1:41 pmTrue, but even so, the description doesn't seem particularly apt. Just any HGV 1 / Heavy Goods Vehicle 1 driver will earn at least that and many far above it.Baconroll wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 7:51 amPetrol tanker drivers in the UK earn £52K a year...I read in a recent report in the news.

It doesn’t have to be petrol tankers although dangerous, flammable or hazardous liquids and loads will almost certainly pay far more than £52k per annum?

I think your news report may have been quoting the very top end, possibly to help their own narrative. Job sites say significantly less:
https://uk.indeed.com/career/tanker-driver/salaries says £41.8k average
https://uk.talent.com/salary?job=class+tanker+driver says £32.2k median
Perhaps a better frame of reference for car affordability would be the median salary as reported by the ONS - last April exactly 50% of all working people earned less than £33,280 before tax.
Doesn't that mean that 50% of truckers are earning between £41.8k and £64.4k? Seems pretty good. I presume the lower numbers are taken up by new-starts, part-timers and people who are just shit at their jobs.
