If you find youtube ads annoying and have issues with youtube now detecting adblockers there is a simple solution. Sign up to youtube premium. Whilst it can be pricey compared to other streaming services there is a way to make it considerably cheaper.
The cheapest countries to subscribe to Youtube are Turkey, Argentina, India. So create a payment profile in your google account from one of those countries then use a vpn to connect to the country and subscribe. YMMV as to whether your card will work.
I've had a family account, up to 6 gmail addresses, subscribed this way for years. Around USD$2/month
Edit: Thought I'd add, this process generally works for all streaming services. Although sometimes more complicated to setup. Spotify, netflix, disney+ etc... And software subs like Adobe, google one, grammarly etc

Question: what advantages are there for streaming over downloads via torrent etc, given the possibility of connection instability?
I think streaming was designed for ultra-reliable, faster connections, which are not always present here

I had NO problem using my android box watching tv, movies, sports and news while in Kep with metfone's Fiber and a Fast 20 mbs download ( vs my 600 mbs download here in Phuket which seems no faster and sometimes it buffers)
streamed fine and sledom needed buffering
figured out the reason was so few people use land based internet in Cambodia as most are on their phones
"We are turning into a nation of whimpering slaves to Fear—fear of war, fear of poverty, fear of random terrorism, or suddenly getting locked up in a military detention camp on vague charges of being a Terrorist sympathizer." HST
Cambodian ISPs use a lot of traffic shaping rules which favor streaming services, making them more reliable.
One big benefit with streaming for me is that I don’t have to wait for downloads or manage disk space for them. E.g. I much rather watch Das Boot on Netflix even though I have the director’s cut DVD, just because I can’t be arsed to put in the disk.
