RIP Elvin from Pacinos in SHV
It is with great sadness that I must announce the passing of yet another of my friends from Cambodia.
Elvin Stanley the founder and former owner of Pacinos bar in the Golden Lions Plaza in Sihanoukville passed away in his sleep in England on 21 Oct, aged 63 1/2.
Elvin was a real character. He sold his mini cab in Gillingham, Kent in England at a good time and with his savings poured a fair bit of money into his bar, it was the nicest in the Plaza.
A bit of a moaning Pommie at times, he was none the less a straight up honest guy who stood up for what he believed in and was a very good host at his bar. Someone that was generally universally liked.
About 18 months ago he sold out and moved back to the UK for a while to sort out a few health issues, enjoy the cold weather and rebuild the finances a bit.
He did intend to return and I was looking forward to seeing him again, alas it is not to be.
vale my friend.
John
(PS this is confirmed, so please no tasteless posts about a poor track record of these announcements like in the recent Snow thread)

My post in the Snow thread was not tasteless. I warned people not to react prematurely, and anyone who heeded my advice saved himself some unnecessary grief.LaudJohn wrote: (PS this is confirmed, so please no tasteless posts about a poor track record of these announcements like in the recent Snow thread)
Anyway, I'm sorry about your friend.

No need to get so defensive, I was not actually thinking of your post on that thread, you had a valid point. I was thinking moreso of the newer posters who can be very tasteless and I don't want this to erupt into the usual off topic flame war (that some of the trolls around here are good at) or posts from them saying .. here we go again etc.gavinmac wrote:My post in the Snow thread was not tasteless. Condolences.
I'm not sure I drank there but I think I have been to every bar at Lion Plaza.

This has been confirmed now and is a great shame.
RiP Elvin, nice nice guy who was larger than life and always extremely good company.

yes, sorry about the similar posting name, genuine mistake m8, comebody being a variation of the pronounciation of cambodia by the locals with some funny twist. Can't change it now.
Haha, no prob! Didn't even notice it... Maybe it would just be easier if I gave u my password and we could just share my login....comebody wrote:yes, sorry about the similar posting name, genuine mistake m8, comebody being a variation of the pronounciation of cambodia by the locals with some funny twist. Bloody hell, there I was reading through these posts of condolences, and then I ran across one from Sunsan. I nearly died!
I came, I argued, I'm out

This man was my grandad. He was my absolute rock and he was the best man I could have asked for to be a role model. It's so lovely to read all of the amazing things everyone has wrote about him. He was truly an amazing person and my favourite. I keep coming back to this page over the years over to just remind myself he was so loved and such an amazing person. I've always wanted to visit Cambodia due to his desire to move out there. Unfortunately, I couldn't be with him when he returned home as I was only young however I go to the crematorium and say my final goodbyes. He was such a big loss for me. But reading your messages and comment has really helped over the 10 years. I still miss him dearly. But thank You! If anyone has any pictures of him please let me know. I don't have any unfortunately.
