Man arrested with homemade ghetto gun
A 25 year old man was arrested in Pursat on Saturday after he allegedly chased a 33 year old man from the same village with a sword. He reportedly cut the seat of the police motorbike with the sword when he was arrested. The police confiscated homemade weapons including firearms made from wood and PVC pipes. Arey

Twenty or so years ago there were tribesmen in Laos who carried long musket type guns. They supposedly spent weeks hollowing out the barrels from steel bars. Then the trigger would set off a hammer that ignited a cap from a kid's gun to set off the black powder/lead slug inside. I never saw one like that here. Since the arms reduction program it seems many poachers here use compressed air guns.
Those guns made purely from PVC piping have become a thing recently. They are very easy to assemble compared to the older style ones that used metal parts with wooden stocks. All you need is a hacksaw and drill, the pipes, joints and valve and the bonding cement. Apparently they use a much bigger metal ball as a projectile, mostly because those pipes don't come very narrow sizes. Anyway they are still deadly and are used to shoot deer and other wildlife, and with such easily available materials anyone can get one.

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
It looks like he's not right in the head. I've been in that situation before. Honestly, it wasn't a sweet time in my life. For two months, I felt stares on my face when I walked home.

Those muskets are still produced in quantity. Northern Thailand is full of them. The balls look about .17 caliber and always loaded double shotted.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2020 10:55 pmTwenty or so years ago there were tribesmen in Laos who carried long musket type guns. A gun made of PVC will eventually be deadly for the shooter. Or at least blow his hands off!Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2020 10:55 pmTwenty or so years ago there were tribesmen in Laos who carried long musket type guns. That;s right, you can just attach a normal tire valve to one and pump it up with a bicycle pump. If the joints are well bonded it shouldn't be dangerous for the shooter.

well that's good to hear that they can have their fun blasting their ghettos with that sort of gun and not get hurt. At least he could have a little fun during his arrest since he reportedly cut the seat of the police motorbike with the sword when he was arrested.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 11:44 pmThat;s right, you can just attach a normal tire valve to one and pump it up with a bicycle pump. Not effective as an anti-personnel weapon at all.

A quick search comes up with at least 3 fatalities caused by homemade airguns in the last year and a half. Several others seriously injured.Guest wrote: ↑Sun Oct 03, 2021 1:42 pmCommonly used for hunting ricefield rats with a glass marble as projectile.Marty9 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 03, 2021 9:17 amwell that's good to hear that they can have their fun blasting their ghettos with that sort of gun and not get hurt. Could that home-made ghetto gun be called a Ghetto Blaster?
