Fantastic to see a Cambodian continental team with a UCI license. It is difficult at the best of times to pull such a road team together, yet to do it during a pandemic is quite an achievement. To put it in an ASEAN context none of Vietnam, Brunei, Laos or Myanmar have a team, and even Thailand & Singapore can muster only one apiece.
They had 3 months in France recently and there's a nice news report below (for those who speak Khmer).
We won't be seeing anyone from the Cambodian Cycling Academy on the Giro d'Italia or the Paris-Roubaix anytime soon, however if that is ever to happen someone needs to forge a path. With the horrid roads, dust & mud, one suspects Cambodian riders may be well suited to the cobblestone classics. One can dream.
Cambodia Cycling Academy
Speaking of those cyclizers types they all hang out at the gas station over the Japanese bridge in Chroy Changvar in the early morning. At least 60 of the bastards and they wait till you’re riding past then surround you and then that’s it. You’re stuck.
pew, pew, pew, pew!
I see a number of them riding 2-3 abreast in the center of the road, early mornings, with no lights.
I don't think there is any traffic law regarding how cyclists should behave, apart from ' drive on the right'.
Only a matter of time before some truck driver injures or kills a number of cyclists.

In some regards the hope is that a more professional outfit like Cambodia Cycling Academy can prepare a Cambodian rider sufficiently to compete in the Olympic Road Race or something with a similar high profile that will then draw attention and further opportunities, Mongolia's Sainbayar had a cracking Olympic road race and found himself with a contract with cashed up Malaysian UCI Continental Team Terengannu as a result (he was with a small Belarus outfit prior). Terengannu compete all over the world.
I have to say I'm surprised at the explosion in popularity of cycling. I remember not so many years ago when people would scoff at you riding a bike and assume you were too poor to afford motorized transport. Fast forward a few years and there are now hoards of cyclists on the roads in the morning and evening. Even a few MAMIL's to be found.
