Fair points. If there was anything meaningful regarding Chinese support for infrastructure works at Ream then Vietnam would be voicing concern. They appear rather relaxed about the whole thing.squirrel wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 9:03 amWhat kind of people are so short of facts that they keep on flogging that dead horse?
And what gives anybody the right to dictate to Cambodia or criticize what they choose to do or don't do as a sovereign state?

I totally agree. The way this has been spun it sounds like a massive invasion. Meanwhile jack shit has been happening at Ream Naval Base. So what if there is some dredging going on? That tiny jetty isn't going to be hosting a large fleet anytime soon.Prahok wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 4:47 pmFair points. It's funny how some of you think that covert operations in general should be part of your push notifications.
I mean someone (a strategic think tank) is bothering with "commercial" satellite imagery (a workaround for the U.S. gov) and The primary p2p shipping news rag has actually decided to shed some light because it's not the usual "fluff".
It's also funny how Transparent you assume The Chinese are considering, how well you purport to like & know them.
A physically good port is the single biggest concern for a ship to hunker down and anchor. Everything else is gravy more or less. Small vessels can ferry men & supplies to/from shore in the meantime. Piers are not hard to whip up, it doesn't need to be a massive container yard. Use your imagination.
Furthermore, you seem to find no connection to South China sea developments whatsover. That or Sihanoukville ('How PrePosterouS! dare I say'!).
Vietnam has it's own maritime problems, you really think they're going to have a louder voice protesting issues in Cambodia??--maybe if ASEAN actually meant something!
Connecting dots!--what a "conflation"!

People are tired of this red herring. Pathetic attempt by the US to affect the influence China has gained through economics, not warmongering.Iridesce wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 5:26 amMucky Lucan--the gift that keeps on giving!Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 11:52 pmIt's funny how you keep going on about a tiny jetty and making it into a big deal.

Haven't they done enough damage in SE Asia already?
Maybe the win friends and influence people strategy is too complex for them to understand. Or maybe it doesn't benefit the MIC enough.
I bet few of them have ever read anything by Edward Gibbon.

You are rabbiting on about a small relatively benign naval base, trying to create a false, misinformed picture of Chinese expansionism.
It sounds to me you are consumed by your Sinophobia to the point you come across somewhat as an obsessive bigot.
Your only saving grace is you are more eloquent than the other racist on this thread.
Ah there is the racism card.
If you look at the big picture a base in Cambodia is beneficial to China:
Slightly oudated:

When operational they can secure their shipping lanes all the way from China to the Mediterranean. I believe a port in Myanmar is missing. The Malacca Strait is crucial to shipping so they would be able to exert control over it from these 2 ports (Cambodia/Myanmar).
They are not really doing anything different than it's rival: the USA. Maybe more covert but the end result will be the same: military bases scattered around the globe to protect their interests.

"Violin"--another sock muppit-scout dangling off China's nut.
And this "Dylan Quint"--when you're only Tool is race, everything is racist. How about judging the merit of the link! Ever play hide & seek when you were a child? No? Then how about a stint in the military? Also, No.
-Never said I had a problem with Chinese women!

Unfortunately base, derogatory obfuscation has become something of a trend. Sadly, obfuscation with intellectual rigour, as epitomised by 'Sir Humphrey', appears a dying art.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 7:54 amThat's a great way to avoid awkward truths. ^^
The two of you seem to think you, ARE, Truth--that the buck stops with you! The delusion works fairly well when the censor board is on your side.
You really can't handle your echo chamber having the slightest dissonance despite all the threads you manage to derail over trivial bullshit.
Both of you perpetually "crash on the couch" of 440. Your primary differences in avoiding inconvenient truths is that, you "Lucky", drift amongst three seperate personalities, at least, depending on how fresh "the meat" is, and the motion of your bowels, while you, "Prahok", seem to think you manage the "special collections" library of the Vienna Philharmonic on Monivong!
One would think the Cambodians play croquet, listening to you!
