So clearly a Chinese naval base.

Yeah, thanks for your input. It's great to hear from expert veteran military intelligence guys like yourself. As for indebting countries through infrastructure development that doesn't apply as Cambodia has the necessary funds in its coffers to service these debts. Even if they are very visible they are only a small proportion of GDP. As for the naval base at Ream, it's a tiny jetty and nothing substantial has been built there other than sheds in the past decade. You can check the satellite images yourself. If you can find the underwater entrance to the secret Chinese naval base that would be awesome, because there is zero evidence that any exists above sea level.villa wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 8:18 pm...what "Lucky" is missing is that he's never been in military intelligence and for some reason seems to think the chinese would be transparent on this.
I mean, what could this possibly have to do with anything, particularly south china sea developments and indebting countries through infrastructure development.
Let's take it from Lucky though!--he knows every nook and cranny of the gulf of siam coast!, anonymous avatar he is.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Allow me to play the devil's advocate here, and assume the nefarious plan is to indebt Cambodiavilla wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 8:18 pm...what "Lucky" is missing is that he's never been in military intelligence and for some reason seems to think the chinese would be transparent on this.

Would you rather have a foreign country gain some control through a devastating war, or through a loan, which would not only not destroy the infrastructure and take lives, but actually build the infrastructure, create jobs and save lives? (there's a military hospital planned, as well)
Now, let's take a look at the west's record, and their technique for enslaving nations, in comparison.
Go home and keep quiet.
China's navy has the world's largest flee.
Any girl will tell you , it's not the size of your flee that counts, it's how you use it.

@lucky lucan they just announced what they will do at the base. So looking at images now is time wasted. Come back in a year. Be glad you have Google sat. images. I would not be surprised of a big blur on the Chinese alternative.
Sure America does the same across the globe but as Westerner I rather have them as overlord than our Chinese friends. Cambodia should be wary of any debt but so will China. Both Sri Lanka and Pakistan must give them a slight headache... With inflation and rising fear of recession more might struggle to pay debt owned to China.

Seems a good time for a reminder that at the point Germany invaded France in WWII (because I’m British, and that happened yesterday), it (France) had not only the world’s largest military force, but also the most advanced weapons at the time.
To quote military top brass from the movie documentary Top Gun: Maverick, “Its not the plane, its the pilot”.
You could barely put a rubber dinghy in that “port”, let alone a Yamato sized battleship.

Remember how the islands in the south China sea were never going to be militarized? Remember that the Chinese were going to let Hong Kong be autonomous? Sri Lanka had to surrender its port. What about the islands that they stole from the Philippines?
They'll build a military base in Seam without a doubt.

Anyone can see from satellite images that it's a tiny jetty and nothing except a few new sheds has changed there in over a decade. Is the base in some tunnel below sea level or am I missing something?
Remember how the US went into Iraq to restore democracy?TheRaven wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 2:31 amRemember how the islands in the south China sea were never going to be militarized? Remember how they knew the Iraqis had WMD?
Remember this?
When are you going to wake up?
The port is still in Sri Lanka, right? Did the Chinese take it back to China?TheRaven wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 2:31 amRemember how the islands in the south China sea were never going to be militarized? I've never seen a complaint from western people about the US military bases in the Philippines, Japan, etc. despite the crimes committed by soldiers there, which include rape, assault, theft, fraud, etc.
I think the complaints are more grounded in racism and fear than by anything of substance or genuine concern for Cambodia.
The decline began long ago, and fall is coming, and there's a new kid on the block

I can't get the whole idea of a single piece of China. It's just too big. Like the USA, it will always be the Yanks against the South. The Beijing crowd is just the anti-matter in this game. Good luck choosing a side.
The idea that China is militarizing anywhere in the South China Sea is ridiculous. Why would they militarize something they own?
Going on the recent history of the Spratley's, the complaints are likely highly justified.
Nothing has been or will be built, until it's been built. Then it's too late.
