MoI police coming to your home!
MoI police coming to your home!
According to Cambodia's newspaper of record(!), the Ministry of Interior will soon launch an operation to inspect the residences of foreigners. The Khmer Times photo shows 4 police visiting a middle-aged white woman and the article offers the detail that the large scale operation is to inspect the lives of all foreigners in Cambodia- excluding diplomats.
Although this seems a wonderful way for bored police to break up their day, one wonders if there might be something more useful for them to do?
I also wonder how best to greet them? With tea and biscuits? Tequila shots? How will you greet them when they come knocking?

Give them $5 and say very busy.Guest9999 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 28, 2022 12:27 amAccording to Cambodia's newspaper of record(!), the Ministry of Interior will soon launch an operation to inspect the residences of foreigners. The inference being that no people are trafficked by Khmers.
Of course not.

Nothing and look if they will not drop any " thing "in your house. If your visa is ok, no worry.Guest9999 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 28, 2022 12:27 amI also wonder how best to greet them? With tea and biscuits? Tequila shots? How will you greet them when they come knocking?
I think Sar Kheng made the remarks, when he felt insulted, after hearing USA had put Cambodia back on a Human trafficking watch list. A Taylor Swiftian, "Look what you made me do" act, to punish all foreigners because USA failed to show Cambodia sufficient respect. I hope he will quietly let the operation disappear before enthusiastic enactment, perhaps after Anthony Blinken's August visit?
Poster Quint suggests $5 might be sufficient, but I fear it might be more annoying. I recall a long ago series of vists by the local Fire Chief, 6 or 8 rubber booted firemen in tow, demanding that I purchase a fire extinguisher for every room. (Unsurprisingly, perhaps, that was a few weeks before Khmer New Year.) Anyway, I like the idea of plying them with alcohol. It might even be fun.
I just saw Khmer Times has come out with a Video version of the news release, including a few more details.
A humorous accident, perhaps, the Khmer Times also includes a candid snapshot of a foreigner walking along the riverfront, before going on to say the lives of all foreigners will be investigated. The picture is of a well known doctor who long ago paid the price for some personal choices.
(incidentally, if I fell sick with a suspected tropical disease, he would be my first call.)

Been happening for years and they are not "inspecting your home".
"Oh sir, your curtains don't match. Very bad, please come with me"

pew, pew, pew, pew!
I've been here 12 years and never had a visit so they will get stale cookies and weak tea. But I guess after a few visits this idea will be quietly dropped. There is no way the scam operations or other trafficking operations let them in or reflect acurate findings. Money changes hands and all is well...
These checks are nothing new, they happen at least every 2-3 years. This time round they actually started conducting checks several weeks/months ago, the DoI, MoLVT & Police/Sangkat officials have been going to door to door checking passports, Visas/EOs's, Work Permits and that the landlords have registered foreign tenants/guests both with the Sangkat and on the FPCS. Do they actually visit every single residence, do they go back when there is no one home? Haha...nope.
This article/statement appears to be more about cracking down on the places housing/employing illegal workers and/or involved in human trafficking, most likely in response to the recent downgrading by the US and media reports. Will they actually pay visits to the sites involved in these activities? Highly unlikely, they'll probably bust a few small scale operations to save face.

I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.

Wanna best any lodgings./ condos where the so called scamming and human trafficking is taken place are NOT visited and are on a list of " not to visit"?PSD_Kiwi wrote: ↑Thu Jul 28, 2022 11:58 amThese checks are nothing new, they happen at least every 2-3 years. "We are turning into a nation of whimpering slaves to Fear—fear of war, fear of poverty, fear of random terrorism, or suddenly getting locked up in a military detention camp on vague charges of being a Terrorist sympathizer." HST
I've been inspected twice. Once in Phnom Penh in 2012 or 2013.
And then about 6 weeks ago in Siem Reap with a house visit. They were mostly interested to check I was registered in the FPCS system (which I was). Told them how useless it was.
They wrote down my details in a notebook. So much for their wonderful app!
