Forced school closures
Looks like our teachers friends will have their salaries squeezed again.
All schools ordered to close for a month from mid April to mid May. Because obviously SEA games is more important than children’s education.
Though I’m not sure how kids attending school in Battambang will impact on the smooth running of SEA games…

I think it's to ease traffic and give kids a chance to attend the games?
Feel for the poor teachers already in bad situation

Yeah I think that is the ‘logic’. I can see how they would want schools in PP to be closed - ridiculous but I can understand.Petain wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 4:54 amI think it's to ease traffic and give kids a chance to attend the games?

But schools all over the country? Kids in the provinces will be sitting scratching their arses for 6 weeks

You mean private schools? I’m not sure that’s right.
I know things were relaxed a bit only a few hours after the announcement and only scanned it quickly but didn’t see a distinction between public/private schools.
That would be even worse though IMO. Rich kids can study, but those poor kids in government schools don’t matter

We were informed yesterday via a Telegram channel. That announcement has since disappeared.....

I’ve just read the newer release.
It’s added that online classes, exam prep and ‘in class education if there is a real need’ is allowed, or for special programs. Pretty unspecific.
But I didn’t see any distinction between public and private schools.
This is purely and attempt at a traffic calming measure to make Cambodia look good.

Agreed, but why close nationwide then?ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 11:26 am

It wasn't in the paper, it was a clarification directly from the ministry. It may have changed since though.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 11:09 amYou mean private schools? I’m not sure that’s right.

I’ve read the docs released from ministry. Experience has shown that it’s more accurate to read it myself than rely on Khmer Times reporting.Mike Farce wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 11:59 amIt wasn't in the paper, it was a clarification directly from the ministry. Well you wouldn’t want those poor rural kids to have an advantage over the privileged PP kids would you?Hanno wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 11:27 amAgreed, but why close nationwide then?ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 11:26 am

Best to keep them all uneducated.
Clearly this was an off-the-cuff idea, not thought through. I'd give it 3 or 4 days for minds to think clearly and come back with a sensible proposal.
FYI, the new national stadium is outside the city so shouldn't affect inner-city traffic. There will be competitions in other venues - Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, Kampot and Kep.
