It was a Cambodian who first explained it to me, long before I had even met Paeng or started the business. Roads with so many dips and potholes that as you sat in a pickup truck or taxi, you bounced and swayed around in your seat as if dancing.
Nothing suspicious. No invention. A Khmer phrase which existed at the time and we decided to use.

Good find here dancingroads2,dancingroads2 wrote:I may be wrong, but I was under the impression that 'teuk' in "ot krup teuk" referred not to water, but to decimetres?
10cm is one 'teuk', and therefore 50cm is '5 teuk' and so on.
You can say that some one is "ot krup teuk" or "pram boun tuk konlah" (9 and a half tuk), meaning basically 'half a decimetre short of a metre" , not a full measure.
Ot krup teuk ! You might be right about teuk.
But " teuk kon lars korm" haft empty clay pot same meaning to ot krup teuk.
Teuk there difinately mean water.
Ombarang could be right with dancing road. Maybe new word I don't know. bumpy road is Plav roo Lak.
Could be wrong, I should've stayed at Khmer school a bite longer.

Unintelligent like prawn's brain!
It's very strong expression to tell someone off.
Because prawn's brain is full of sh*t.

Dara_Khmer, please post more often. Pay no attention to the prawns who are more interested in grammar and spelling rather than the importance of what you say. As I said I live rurally in Cambodia and have had to learn to speak Cambodian to get along with my neighbors. It has been an exciting experience. So all the difficulties are worth the effort. Still, I appreciate all the help I can get and I"m sure other foreign posters here feel the same. We're in your corner, fighter!

yeah, they mostly only apply those standards to other native english speakers.... you're safe
Those who begin coercive elimination of dissent soon find themselves exterminating dissenters. Compulsory unification of opinion achieves only the unanimity of the graveyard.

Dara_Khmer, OrangeDragon is correct. As a local, you add a valuable perspective to this forum. I doubt anybody would mind errors in your posts.OrangeDragon wrote:yeah, they mostly only apply those standards to other native english speakers.... you're safe

Native English speakers that intentionally use bad grammar and punctuation are a different story. Why would someone want to appear lazy and make their posts harder to read, when it's just as easy to use proper punctuation and grammar?

Isn't unintelligent OR stupid l'ngung ( ល្ងង់ )? l'kung is a heck of a lot easier to say, maybe it's a colloquial version?Dara_Khmer wrote:La k'oung doek kour bong kong!

A minor note... the 'k'-sound in brain ( khua ) and the 'k'-sound in bongkong are different. The first is the same as the english 'k', the second more like english 'g'.
