Nearly finished all the Vikings series.
Good stuff. Lost abit of interest on season 6.
One thing that bothers me though is that I believe it originally aired on the history channel, and alot of the characters like the King's etc, actually existed.
According to Google, King Ecbert, for example is said to have died of natural causes.
In the series he kills himself after allowing himself to be captured.
Also Viking mean pirate. Is it far more likely that Vikings were opportunist thieves, than masters of military strategy, and soldier warfare?
They are elite soldiers in the series, but there are many historical accounts that they avoided this kind of conflicts.
Robbing monasteries were easy undefended targets.

Borrowed from Old Norse víkingr (“Viking”). Already in Old English as wīċing and Old Frisian wītsing, but extinct in Middle English and borrowed anew in the 19th century.
Old Norse víkingr itself is from Old Norse vík (“inlet, cove, fjord”) + -ingr (“one belonging to, one who frequents”) (the -r is the nominative desinence). Thus, “one from or who frequents the sea’s inlets”.
The Old English and Anglo-Frisian form, existing since at least the eighth century, could also have been derived from or influenced by Old English wīc (“camp”), on account of the temporary encampments which were often a prominent feature of the Vikings’ raids

Yeah I didn’t like Ragnars sons.spitthedog wrote: ↑Sat Jun 04, 2022 4:41 pmNearly finished all the Vikings series.

Especially Ivar. Vikings Valhalla was entertaining though.
Motive
A different narrative, similar to Columbo.
No whodunnit, but how did it come to be, (sorry my french).

Vikings was pretty good, started great. I liked the last season as well and was a fan of Boneless. There was one of the seasons that focused too much on Ivarr though and repeatedly showing how crazy he was. That whole season (4 or 5?) could almost be condensed into a couple episodes. Thankfully the show recovered for its final season.

Agreed. The series was really good except the Russian thing with Ivar that dragged on and on and was just too far fetchedGMJS-440 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 05, 2022 6:00 amVikings was pretty good, started great. Valhalla was worth binge watching too
Haven't watched Bosch yet but definitely going to
Just finished the Lincoln lawyer
Michael Connelly never ever disappoints. Consistently excellent plots and characters, I love all of his books
Whoever mentioned Babylon Berlin, thank you!
I've just come across this YouTube channel . It's amazing how much is changed in 30 odd years.

The Orville has been back for a week now. 3.5 years since season 2 finished. CGI budget looks to have increased. Also filmed before Norm McDonald passed away so likely his final work.
