Made in 2013, this interesting documentary follows 3 Christian organizations, Water of Life, Harmony Outreach, and World Orphans, as they try to improve life in the Kingdom of Wonder.
Basically they view Khmer society as broken and in need to be rescued by God. But it's done from a bottom up approach, educating the local ministers out in the provinces and helping the street kids.
I primarily watched this show to try to start to understand the thinking of the God worshippers on the ground and to get an inkling why some members of the board hate them so much.
Recommended. Not heavy on the preaching. But provides a fascinating view of life in the Kingdom.

Individual Christians who live as an example, no problem.
Sanctimonious proselytizers who bribe villagers with rice to attend brainwashing, illegal.
Take it up with the government.

Was that seriously supposed to be a review? Not even a link?
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
One should hope so! One of the major problems of such organisations is they often cast their target population as helpless victims. They denigh the people their voice and speak for them, but impose their own ideology upon them. By doing this they are building their vision of of reality, not the peoples.Miguelito wrote:I may regret this question, but do you understand now?usernamenone wrote:I primarily watched this show to try to start to understand the thinking of the God worshippers on the ground and to get an inkling why some members of the board hate them so much.
Here's the intro to the film:
....Despite the UN occupation of the nineties, political corruption infests every level of government. But could the problem originate in something less obvious. Cambodia is approximately 96% Buddhist, a religion that teaches people to accept your karma and be content with whatever happens. Because of this mindset Cambodians rarely make any attempt at any improvements or fight for justice.
I came here with a group of Christian missionaries who run an orphan home. The message they bring is the exact opposite of the “Khmer” attitude. There work is simple . they provide food, shelter, education, bibles and love. By doing this everyday, they enable a generation of Cambodians to lift themselves up, to reignite there self worth and give them a real future worth fighting for. The house is called Water of Life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gs1l0Tdx8UA

A link to what? I watched it on the screen, not some internet site.Lucky Lucan wrote:Was that seriously supposed to be a review? Not even a link?
It's my review. Told you why I watched it, and my impressions. It's a docudrama from a group living in the KOW, not Guardians of the Galaxy, vol. 2.
