Phnom Penh India has been my wife's and my favorite for a long time now. It's owned by the same guy who owns the Sher-E-Punjabs. He owns 5 restaurants total. (He's Nepalese, btw). The food, the service, and the manager are excellent. The prices are reasonable, especially the thalis and the specials.logos wrote:I wanted a change from sheer-e-Punjab for the reasons above so this evening I gave a try to PP India on riverside, not far from the FCC. I am normally a bit reluctant to try places on the Riverside because I consider them as potential tourist traps, but that fear was entirely misplaced. Their decor is all but flashy, rather basic actually,, nothing touristy there.
I had lamb with spinach, pilau rice and a butter roti. Efficient, attentive service. The food was so good I was surprised, some of the best Indian I ever ate, with portions like they used to give at sheer_e-Punjab before they started cutting corners. They certainly gained a regular today.
I am sooooo very sorry if you can't understand or appreciate my sarcastic facetiousness.

That place moved AGES ago, a couple streets south.
Back then, my Good Dreams steak joint was on the NE corner of St. 51 and Sihanouk. I think it was taken over by a place called "X-men."

I might have to give them another look. I only went in there one time and it was disappointing. Went with the kids, my daughter ordered a butter chicken as she always does and I ordered a Madras. The waiter then asked if we wanted the dish spicy, this is a red flag for me, of course a butter chicken is supposed to be mild and a madras is supposed to be spicy.ullobonggottanewmoto wrote:Strange...I live on curries and I reckon they're pretty good. Anyway, I went along with it and said to make the madras spicy and the butter chicken not spicy. Food arrives and the butter chicken is basically Cambell's tomato soup with chicken floating in it, no spice, flavour or seasoning what so ever. The madras was also way too mild, I sent both back and said, cook them how they are supposed to be cooked.
On the second attempt they got it half right, but still not great as they had clearly just pepped up the food we sent back rather than doing it again. Also they were strictly rationing the popodom's which didn't make the kids happy. I'd be happy to buy them if they wanted.

I ordered from them this Monday and thought the food was bland and uninteresting. One of my worst Indian meals...ricecakes wrote:Foodshop 45

I just swung by Bestos, as it's on my cheap eats list, and they were closed with a sheet over the windows.
But as it's part of my list, I needed to find out if they were open or not. Got in touch with the owner, and he said they're closed for two days because the chef is ill. So, I guess they haven't closed for good.

Still there. The hygiene standards are totally authentic...pedros wrote:Is the grotty, but very cheap Indian place still open in what's left of the lakeside slum?
That place is pretty 'authentic' Indian.

Does anyone remember a place on St 282 called, if I recall correctly, Annam? Closed some sevenish years ago as the site was being redeveloped but it was my favourite Indian on my visits to the big city. It had semi alfresco dining and a glass walled kitchen so you could see what was going on. Pricy but tremendous food. The owners were looking for another site but I don't think anything came of it.

Coriander on 71/73?
Tiny place, but very good food, had a lovely lentil soup and curry there.
