Don't bother. I read it a few years back.
At the time I thought parts of it were likely fabricated. It's not particularly well written and even if it is true it's not particularly relevant to Cambodia today.

Long out of date now, it was another time. They filled in the lake for a start.

It's a sort of memoir of a fairly scuzzy-sounding character who describes all the worst things around while pretending that he was just doing some journalistic research himself. I'd agree it's badly written, and the chapters jump all over the place. There are plenty of thinly veiled descriptions of real people in the book. I read it in Thailand before I first came here, I found it quite surprising but in some ways I felt it did describe the sort of atmosphere at the time well. It's a different planet now though.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: Don't bother. I read it a few years back.

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Just off track for a moment.
Have any expats experience in Cambodia prisons been published into a book?
I've read a few about expats memoirs in Big Tiger/Bangkok Hilton Thailand last century.
Warren Fellows Damage Done was the best imo.
Who is currently the longest serving expat inmate. Has any expat spent more than 5yrs locked up here?

Not sure but Matthew Harland went down in around 2010, and not aware that he is out.Jep wrote:Just off track for a moment.
