A lot of bullshit in that book. But, I used to see weed in Russian Market in 1990 at a buck a kilo. Ditch weed, but still weed.

I bought a full kilo of it in a big shopping bag at Kratie market for 2 dollars in 2001.Felgerkarb wrote:A lot of bullshit in that book. But, I used to see weed in Russian Market in 1990 at a buck a kilo. Ditch weed, but still weed.
2008 it was only available from one of the tobacco women there, the other stopped selling it.
The price was unfortunately much higher than before. Blame the dolphins.

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Don't remember contents of book, but:
1.Used to be able to buy perfectly-rolled joints in packets of 20's;
2.Grenades, guns and landmines were available for a couple of dollars (if you didn't like your neighbours etc.);
3.TK was a paddy field and the girls there were about $3 on a quiet night. However I believe it wasn't a particularly romantic experience.
etc etc

I must admit, I'm really struggling to understand old posters like Lucky's views on Cambodia at that time. I mentioned some of my own views already ( shame about the muddy part).
Has anyone else that was here in the early 00's found K440's view of it odd?
Maybe someone who's been on K440 longer than me could explain it ?

I went to Phnom Penh in the late 90's and stayed at the Capital Guest House. In retrospect, I was incredibly naive and innocent at the time. There were definitely some shenanigans going on that shocked me a bit. I'm certain there was a lot more going on that I just did not pick up on do to my having a sheltered upbringing.
But I don't buy Amit's presenting himself as some innocent non-participating bystander in all the goings-on.

Not sure what you mean about views. Anyway, I wasn't here other than a few weeks at the turn of the millennium.SCC wrote:I must admit, I'm really struggling to understand old posters like Lucky's views on Cambodia at that time.

I don't intend to labour the point, but what was it that you objected so strongly about in that other post of mine Lucky, Just the title? or was it just that I made it sound like the riverside hadn't been redeveloped after the DK at all by then? or just the idea I gave that PP was still a bit dangerous in general?
What do think the other core political discussionists of this sight thought? Although it may have sounded a dumb question, I feel that a good instructive debate could have been had.
