Background of KR propaganda films?
Background of KR propaganda films?
Does anyone have any background information on the KR propaganda films like those on youtube or ina.fr? I think the films were Chinese made as at least one of the films has Chinese text. There are somewhere between 5 and 10 pro-KR videos including the Yugoslavia (?) film. (Also, like some background on that video.) I just can't seem to find anything in my research.

There are a lot of DK propaganda videos. They were made with the help of Chinese technicians. The Yugoslavian film is interesting because the crew were expecting better and weren't really fooled, in the end it was quite anti DK in tone.
https://cambodiatokampuchea.wordpress.c ... 8/12/1978/The makers were not quite as sympathetic to Democratic Kampuchea as might have been expected, and managed to film a lot of desolation and misery.

A compilation of propaganda films. Lots around Olympic Stadium.

I recently found:

You seem to be well read in the topic, so I guess you are well aware of if not all of the listed material, at least the majority of it.
It seems to do a fairly good job of listing KR positive media coverage over the period. For me it was interesting to see how the infamous misguided Swedish delegation actually was part of something much larger, I had always thought that Jan Myrdal’s visit was a one-off in epically misguided leftism agitation and a huge low-water mark in Swedish socialistic attempts to tell “the evil capitalists of the US” how bad they were, but have not been able to be able to put it into a greater perspective until I found that site, I did not know that Norway and Denmark amongst others also did similar publicity visits and spread naive propaganda in the media once they returned. Reading it made me feel ashamed of the European leftism of the era.

Bophana Center and L'Institut national de l'audiovisuel (INA - you'll see the INA.FR logo on a lot of videos) archived a bunch of propaganda films discovered after 1979, but Bophana doesn't have them online although INA.fr has some of them. The KR videos are very similar in style to the Chinese propaganda films from the Cultural Revolution so I know there's Chinese involvement. I wish someone had interviewed the filmmakers to learn about the process.
I was watching one of the videos and noticed some of the "regular" cadres were wearing wristwatches. Maybe Chinese watches were allowed. I do wonder (morbid curiosity) what kind of watch Pol Pot wore as he wears it in most videos.

They liked Japanese watches like Seiko and Casio. They stole them from new people. Those and pens were signs of high rank. Parker pens were popular.
