Sihanoukville in the Vietnam war
Sihanoukville in the Vietnam war
Did Russian ships dock and unload at the port in Sihanoukville or was cargo unloaded offshore? Did Chinese ships use Sihanoukville also? If they docked are these docks still there today? Thanks

Look up the Sihanouk Trail, the port was certainly used by North Vietnamese/ Eastern Bloc ships pre March 1970 coup to supply PAVN /NLF forces in Cambodia and South Vietnam.
Post April 1975 Chinese ships docked there to supply Democratic Kampuchea with arms and rice and other products were exported via Sihanoukville. The port was also bombed by the US during the May 1975 Mayaguez Incident.

Could do with bombing again at present, I'd say.

Maybe get OML to drop a 10000lb bomb onto it again as he seems to think “it’s fun” killing and maiming civilians.

Does he? Bit of a pompous git but he never struck me as a bad guy.
It was over on TOF. The thing that surprised me is he got 7 likes!Starving Pelican wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 11:40 amDoes he? Bit of a pompous git but he never struck me as a bad guy.
They either didn't read it and just did it because they are twats or they are just twats.
From TOF
"On my first release, the passing of the shock wave blast through the C130 really caught me by surprise and it felt and sounded to me as if every rivet in the aircraft had fallen out! Of course, the more seasoned aircrew always looked forward to having a first timer on board! We are all a virgin at something in our lives, even when it comes to dropping 10,000 dumb bombs from a C130 aircraft over Cambodia! Thereafter it becomes fun. Later in this operation a 15,000 pound bomb was used for the same purpose but I had no involvement with this."
What a pompous wanker.

YTP,
You are selectively misquoting him to make it appear that he would be happy killing civilians.
The bombs being dropped were being used to make clearings in the forest to allow LZ's ( Landing Zones ) to be established.

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

Dropping a few bombs so what ! It's not as if he misgendered someone or was mean on the internet.
Quod scripsi, scripsi
I wondered who would come to his defence.
“Ok, yes all clear. Ain’t no one down there.”
“Bombs away!”
The same bombs they are finding in 2022?
How have I selectively misquoted him?
The part I quoted is the part that I was intrigued by. It’s the same operation. The same person telling the story.

Yes, but do you not agree that flattening Sihanoukville, and starting over again would be a good idea?YaTingPom wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 2:31 pmI wondered who would come to his defence.

Maybe not a large bomb...or clear out all the people beforehand, at least.

Metaphorically yes but in practice it wouldn’t be very smart.spitthedog wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 2:41 pmYes, but do you not agree that flattening Sihanoukville, and starting over again would be a good idea?YaTingPom wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 2:31 pmI wondered who would come to his defence.

There was a supermarket and a Russian owned hotel supplies place upstairs (can’t remember the name).
I believe the new one is in Furi Mall.
