A popular privately-run medical clinic in the Thai capital of Bangkok has made an announcement to advise patients that it will no longer be prescribing oral sex as a treatment for sick male patients.
The clinic made headlines earlier this year when it first started offering oral sex as a treatment to patients after a study published by a team of Dutch researchers recommended it as a way of greatly shortening recovery times after serious operations.
In the Dutch study, two groups of male patients who had just undergone surgery were recruited: the control group would be left to recover normally, while the experimental group would receive oral sex from a female volunteer on a daily basis.
The researchers were shocked to discover that the men in the experimental group recovered an average of 30% faster than the men in the control group, leading to the conclusion that the sex was somehow helping to repair their bodies quicker after the surgery.
“After further analysis, we discovered that the men who received oral sex in the study were getting better quicker because of the release of dopamine,” said one of the scientists involved in the Dutch research. “An increased release of dopamine has been linked to faster tissue repair in previous research, which is why we believe sex can help patients recover quicker from surgery.”
The Bangkok-based clinic cited the Dutch study as the inspiration for their new service, and as a result received a deluge of bookings from male patients hoping to recover quicker from a range of surgeries. At the time, a director of the clinic told the media that the surgery waiting list had grown from 2 weeks to 6 months. “This new service has seen an unexpected growth in demand,” he said.
However, several months after the clinic began offering oral sex, it has now made the announcement that it will no longer be prescribing sex to patients. The director spoke to the media to explain the clinic’s policy reversal.
“While we were able to replicate the results from the Dutch study in that the patients were recovering quicker from their surgery, we found an unintended consequence of the oral sex was that the patients refused to leave the hospital until well after they had healed because they enjoyed it so much.”
As a result, the wards were filled with male patients who were completely healthy and well-recovered from their surgeries, preventing the clinic from accepting any new n this manner.”
