Nga says, "I came to Australia as a refugee from Vietnam. After my family and I crossed the border from Vietnam to Thailand we spent seven months in a refugee camp before we finally came to Australia by boat in 1982. "
Where is this border?

Give her a break, she must have been a small kod back then. And it could well have been due to editing as well.

Plus she's presumably suffered an Australian education since then.

There is of course no common border between Vietnam and Thailand. However many thousands of Vietnamese citizens fled across Laos and Cambodia or by sea to refugee camps in Thailand during the war and after reunification.
https://oac.cdlib.org/view?docId=hb0580 ... ntire_textThe Vietnamese boat refugees have attracted a great deal of attention in the news over the years, to the point that many Americans refer to all the Southeast Asian refugees as “boat people”. Not all of the Vietnamese leaving their country in pursuit of freedom, however, have taken fishing boats and small junks out on the sea in order to reach their goal. Thousands of desperate and daring individuals have chosen instead to journey by land across Cambodia or Laos to Thailand where they expect to be welcomed into the refugee camps by humanitarian organizations such as the Red Cross. There, these people hope they can wait in safety and peace while their applications for resettlement in a “third country”, or country of permanent asylum, are being considered. (Numerous ethnic Chinese living in North Vietnam have also passed through the mountains along the Vietnam-China border on their flight from persecution.)
