Saturated fat
Bongs,
Of late i find myself slipping from a mostly veganish diet, with meat a couple of times a week, to eating a more vegetarian diet, and lately i've been consuming easier prepared foods like cheese.
Cheese is convenient. Nobody dislikes cheese.
I try to look after myself as i get older, so watch the saturated fats and consume alot of olive oil, but from what i can gather on the interwebs, France and Holland has the lowest rate of heart disease in Europe, and are also at the top of the cheese eating lists.
Denmark is a big cheese eating country, and has quite high heart disease, but i reckon they also eat a shit load of hotdogs.
Greece is known for its long life expectancy, and are big cheese eaters.
What is your view on saturated fats?
A study from Cambridge University ;
"France, dairy products contribute to dietary saturated fat intake, of which reduced consumption is often recommended for CVD prevention. Epidemiological evidence on the association between dairy consumption and CVD risk remains unclear, suggesting either null or inverse associations. This study aimed to investigate the associations between dairy consumption (overall and specific foods) and CVD risk in a large cohort of French adults. This prospective analysis included participants aged ≥18 years from the NutriNet-Santé cohort (2009–2019). Daily dietary intakes were collected using 24-h dietary records. Total dairy, milk, cheese, yogurts, fermented and reduced-fat dairy intakes were investigated. CVD cases (n 1952) included cerebrovascular disease (n 878 cases) and CHD (n 1219 cases). Multivariable Cox models were performed to investigate associations. This analysis included 104 805 French adults (mean age at baseline 42·8 (SD 14·6) years, mean follow-up 5·5 (SD 3·0) years, i.e. 579 155 person-years). There were no significant associations between dairy intakes and total CVD or CHD risks. However, the consumption of at least 160 g/d of fermented dairy (e.g. cheese and yogurts) was associated with a reduced risk of cerebrovascular diseases compared with intakes below 57 g/d (hazard ratio = 0·81 (95 % CI 0·66, 0·98), P trend = 0·01). Despite being a major dietary source of saturated fats, dairy consumption was not associated with CVD or CHD risks in this study. However, fermented dairy was associated with a lower cerebrovascular disease risk. Robust randomised controlled trials are needed to further assess the impact of consuming different dairy foods on CVD risk and potential underlying mechanisms"

You really need to add saturated fats back into your diet - your brain needs it.
I'm guessing your body is actually craving cheese - it needs the fat.
I hate to break it you but a vegan diet is a death diet - you are slowly starving yourself. You really need to watch some ex-vegan videos to see how dangerous the "diet" is and the effects it had on people's health.
If you are a vegan you are lacking heme-iron, creatine, carnitine, taurine, Vitamin A, B6, B12, D,F, K12, which plants don't provide.
I'm sure we had this discussion before about human digestive systems vs ruminant digestive systems. Humans don't produce the correct enzymes to digest fiber.
In fact, humans don't even really need to eat vegetables and most are actually toxic - for example they contain oxalic acid which provides protection against predators.
Cook with lard! Seed oils, including olive oil, oxidize when heated and are toxic. Coconut oil for cooking is good though - it's the closest to saturated fat.
Take advantage of all that grass fed beef and lamb in Ireland!!!!

If you have good insulin sensitivity then you don't need to concern yourself with saturated fat intake as a proportion of a suitable caloric intake.
If you are a clean eating vegan (I've seen some vegans live on absolute shite), then you likely have very healthy insulin sensitivity.
If however (like most of the west) you eat a lot of sugar, both directly and indirectly (processed food) then you need to stay away from saturated fat.
If you aren't sure go get some blood work done. HbA1c and a lipids panel is all that's needed, if HbA1c and your triglycerides are in the healthy range, you have nothing to worry about and can go nuts (no pun intended) on the fats, even high LDL doesn't matter if those two markers are good.

I suggest you read two 2 books spoon fed and the diet myth by Proffessor Tim Spector then make up your own mind. He has been in charge of some huge food studies in the recent past...sort of side tracked in the uk by making thier health app a covid tracker app. ..but still heavily involved in project ZOE in which if I remeber he is lead or Chief Scientist..
as far as I recall his advice is try to eat 30 different plants a week, that includes nuts and seeds, a bit meat - of which fish is still a meat, a little red wine, dark chocolate as well. Avoid overly proceesed foods.... which would lead you away from Cheese slices( or Cheese whizz..cheese in a can!) to say blue chesse ..he would prefer a bit unpasturised cheese...

French cheese and French wine is eaten by the nationalistic French people who follow Marie le pen. If you eat French cheese or drink French wine you might as well just be giving money directly to the Klu Klux Klan.

Speaking of cheese, what IS going on in the KoW at the moment - I've been enjoying Swiss Gruyere for well over 10 years, but Thai Huot ran out, so I switched to Manchego which is inferior, but still good. Now all that is left is bloody Cheddar or Gouda (pukeface), or that slimy soft French stinky stuff like Brie or Camembert (extrapukeface).
I gave up going to Lucky Sihanouk Blvd for my Stilton, just too many damn weirdos there that made an Ibiza 48h rave after party look like the pinnacle of civilisation.
