Racing thoughts at bedtime
Racing thoughts at bedtime
Went to a local pharmacy and was advised either Alprozalam (brand name Axprazol) or Bromazepam (brand name Lexomil) or Lorazepam (brand name Temesta).
Wiki learns me that all of them are Benzodiazepines which means that they are all highly addictive (when misused).
What are the main differences between them and which of them do you have experience with and for which treatment?
My main issue is the falling asleep (due to anxiety and racing thoughts), not the staying asleep.
(Non-alcoholic drinker, non-smoker)
Any advice would be appreciated!

A herbal one that works if you can find it has passion flower and extract of hops strabile, maybe with lemon balm too if you can find it.
The one I have is made by Swisse.

I've been an insomniac all of my life. It's horrible. I can remember when I was 5 years old that I would keep my parents awake with my noise late at night cause I couldn't sleep. I would often have to miss work because of exhaustion. Finally about 35 years later I was prescribed lorazepam and it was the first time in my life I could get a decent sleep. I had tried all kinds of other meds and over the counter sleep aids but none were satisfactory. Yes they are very addictive. I've been taking them for almost 30 and unfortunately I am a slave to them. If I lose them or take too many because I may sometimes take them for anxiety and am short at the end of the month I can go 4 or more days without sleep. And trust me that is one of the worst things you can go through. I had to go to an addiction clinic to get myself slowly down to a lower dose and was changed to clonazepam which they say is less addictive but really it's much the same. I am now terrified because my doctor is quite old and may retire and it's very hard to get any doctor to prescribe benzodiazepines. I sometimes try to wean myself down by gradually doing a little less than a pill per night but I'm still a slave to them. If you do get any of those I would recommend that you save them for one or two nights per week max to try to get at least one real good sleep.
I've sometimes used melatonin which can help. Sleepy time tea and valerian are milder herbal remedies that might help. But for me I'm stuck with benzodiazepines. They're really not meant to be taken for as long as I have and especially for older people like myself so I'm kind of in a predicament.
Be very careful with them.

I'd avoid all of the above shit. It's not a long term fix, and you can't take them long term anyway.
Poison.
Try exercise until exhaustion.

I had a period of insomnia with racing thoughts and found the most effective way to fall asleep at night was by exhausting myself physically during the day through long (very long) walks. I did this for a number of weeks - the end result being a return to normal sleeping patterns with a quietening of the mind eventually without the exercise.

Identify what is causing the psycho-activity, coffee, pot, blue light etc. Sometimes its about just relaxing so maybe look into self-hypnosis relaxation techniques.
On the other hand, some folk get by on 2 or 3 hours and take power naps through the day e.g. Churchill

I've been doing this for years: https://www.uofmhealth.org/health-library/uz2225
I start with my toes, then slowly work up to my forehead. Takes about 20 mins.

Zolpidem Tartate is ok. It works by dropping you into a natural sleep.
Addictive in the sense you think you can’t sleep without but you can!

pew, pew, pew, pew!
The Zs are pretty addictive but can be useful for a reset.
Melatonin works for me. No side effects.
Getting laid+ melatonin 1.5 mg = a good night sleep
Also getting rid of blue light, blue LEDs are terrible for sleep.

No one's mentioned any homoeopathic approaches. I don't see why cannabis and beer won't fix this problem?

And before anybody comes back and says he's a non-smoking non-drinker I would like to remind you about vodka jellies and edibles!
