Wife is pregnant again. We're going to have it tested for Down's Syndrome. They can do it in a Cambodia lab for $80, or alternatively send it to Singapore which costs $700.
Anybody knows if there is anything wrong with just having the test done in Cambodia?

Screening test or diagnostic test?
Diagnostic tests have a small risk of losing the baby - would personally pay to reduce that risk.
Screening tests aren’t definitive and don’t harm the baby.

Amniocentesis tests are very good however there's always a risk! I wouldn't subject my wife/partner to one unless theres a history on either the paternal/maternal sides of the family
You no longer need to do amniocentesis to test for DS - it can be done using a test called NIPT (Noninvasive Prenatal Testing). It's a DNA test, all it takes is a blood sample from the mother. There is placenta DNA that will be present, and the test is very sensitive to pick up whether there is trisomy 21. You'll also get to know definitievly if the baby is a boy or girl. Pretty sure this is the service that will be costing $80!
Yes, it is just a blood test. They can do the analysis at a Cambodian lab or send it (the blood sample) to Singapore and have it done at a lab there. My question is just, if there is any reason to have it done in Singapore. Isn't the labs in Cambodia fully capable to do it?
Screening test, is that the ultrasound test? Yes, it can be done at 3 months, but not as reliable I think.

The lab offering NIPT in Cambodia should be accredited (ISO standards), otherwise better to go to Thailand or Singapore to an accredited lab. $80 is pretty cheap for this type of service, but $700 is high. It is usually in between.
The results are usually presented as positive or negative for each of the markers. If positive, then there will be a high probability or low probability rating. If a high probability result is given, then the couple will be encouraged to confirm by invasive genetic testing (CVS or amniocentesis) before taking irreversible steps in the management of the pregnancy. If a low probability is the result, it may still warrant invasive genetic testing, especially if there are other indicators and markers of a fetal chromosome disorder.

Didn't know you could do it via a blood test, last one was 36 years ago so i'm maybe a bit out of date,
which lab is this? I'm also looking to have NIPT
