Upside of being married?
Upside of being married?
What frills do I get for being married to a Cambodian? Can I get permanent residence for instance?
No, you don't get Permanent Residence unfortunately, and there is no dedicated Visa or EOS category for those legally married or having kids with a Cambodian Citizen.
You are however eligible to apply for the EB (Business) EOS based on marriage if not working.
If legally married in Cambodia to a Cambodian Citizen, and living together, for 3 years in Cambodia you are eligible to apply for Citizenship via marriage, easier said than done though.
If legally married in Cambodia to a Cambodian Citizen, your name will be included on any property Hard Titles of property purchased when married, and the property cannot be sold without both parties agreement. If the Cambodian spouse passes away you inherit any properties, but as foreigners are not permitted to own land, you are then required to transfer or sell the property to a Cambodian Citizen, money from the sale is all yours. You also inherit any joint assets or funds held in a bank account, etc.
Note: legally married means you have an official Cambodian Marriage Certificate, either by going through the process and approval of the MoFAIC and MoI, or having your marriage abroad recognised and approved by the MoI and having a Cambodian Marriage Certificate issued by the Sangkat. A marriage abroad is not automatically recognised.
Just having a wedding ceremony in Cambodia without going through the application process with the MoFAIC and MoI is also not legally recognised.

Frills?
You’ve got a permanent translator on hand that you can shag and not feel guilty about nobbing “the staff”.

Re the bit underlined, does the foreign partner have to spend a certain amount of time in Cambodia to be eligible, and can they apply for 12 month EOS and come and go freely?PSD_Kiwi wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 9:45 amNo, you don't get Permanent Residence unfortunately, and there is no dedicated Visa or EOS category for those legally married or having kids with a Cambodian Citizen.

It's just the same as anyone else on the E type EOS, can come and go as they please with no limits or reqs. But will need to be in Cambodia at renewal time.violet wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 1:05 pmRe the bit underlined, does the foreign partner have to spend a certain amount of time in Cambodia to be eligible, and can they apply for 12 month EOS and come and go freely?PSD_Kiwi wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 9:45 amNo, you don't get Permanent Residence unfortunately, and there is no dedicated Visa or EOS category for those legally married or having kids with a Cambodian Citizen.

Nope, no residency requirements and can come and go as often as one pleases, same as anyone with a multi-entry EOS.

The Church? In Cambodia?
Sorry for your personal failings, but stay on message, eh?
I wonder what the percentage of expats who’ve married locals have been married before, which also ended in disaster - both financially and emotionally?
pew, pew, pew, pew!
I would have thought a majority of the older tourists have been married before.
I suspect a divorce/seperation then divide the house sale profits and head to Cambodia/SEA.
