Even though I have been in S E Asia for nearly twenty years I really have no idea about the monsoon rains. I know it rains at different times in different places. However, I was quite shocked at how violent the N E monsoon was in Vietnam in December this year and the fact the fact that it rained big time all day long.
I had always assumed that the monsoon rains were like in Cambodia and fairly predictable, as this had been my experience before in the delta.
What about the rest of SE Asia, Thailand, Malaysia and especially India, predictable set your watch by it stuff or weeks of never endind misery. Talking cyclist stuff here not wrapped up poffter biker stuff.

^^ No, not really. A bit fucking wet, yes, as the monsoon rains have started in the border areas with China and Laos which is something I didn't know about. Fortunately, at the moment they are following a clock work pattern which is full on thunder, lightning and downpour early morning most mornings. Having been soaking wet for about two thirds of my time here I thought I would try and plan a little better and ask some questions. If asking questions makes one lonely, then there are a lot of very lonely people about.
k440, something to do when you're pissed.
I'm no Michael Fish ( ) but I think any time you are up high in Laos where you are about to go it's wet. Cloud forest do they call it? All ferns and highland looking plants.
Once you get down south, things are more predictable.

The Southwest Monsoon has officially started. I say this not only as it started pouring here, but this article states that it started yesterday in Malaysia.
Funny, it started raining around the time you posted that!Miguelito wrote:The Southwest Monsoon has officially started. I say this not only as it started pouring here, but this article states that it started yesterday in Malaysia.

NE Thailand heavy downpours just after noon every day for the last few days, plus another downpour around four and showers during the night. Not too bad and can easily plan around that kind of pattern.
