Tip for BKK airport
I figured that with the King’s Bday holiday a handful of you might be going to Bangkok. The last two times I arrived at BKK the taxi queue was huge, AOT said it would be 25 minutes for a car, and I could see dozens of people waiting for Grab.
So, I went up to the top floor where the arrivals is, walked out and was able to get a car instantly. You can easily negotiate a cheap fare, and without the wait. One time I got a grab driver who needed to head back into the city, and one time a real taxi. Next time I might just head straight upstairs.

Aren't there one way revolving barriers up there? Did you hurdle them like Edwin Moses?

Last time I flew to Bangkok I flew Air Asia as the flight landed at a more convenient time for me. The taxi line up at DMK was crazy long... So rather than waiting I just went and flagged down a taxi a little bit further down the terminal, maybe 100 meters before the taxis get into the line-up to pick up passengers waiting in the terminal. Taxi queue is on the far left of the terminal so I just walked out the doors near the middle of the terminal. First guy wanted way too much, second guy gave me a highish but reasonable quote which was going to save me ages in line so I jumped in.

I know what you mean... I think those are only by door number 1, and I exited further down. Wasn’t a problem at all, I just walked out the revolving door and right up to a car dropping someone off.

I've been doing this as long as I fly on Don Muang. Once the BTS is finished there it should improve. The train at swampy is an option depending on where you need to go but can be overcrowded at times.
Only once I've been approached by airport staff telling me it is not allowed but by that time the taxi was loaded up already.
Smile and appologize, problem solved.
The only problem I had was with taxi drivers doing a detour or suddenly having trouble to find your destination despite the fact they drive around the city each f*cking day. I know the general price for most places I go so once I arrive I toss that through the window. It's a great way to learn certain Thai words which you won't learn in your average language class.

Yes, they have the revolving gates. Just turn them back a bit and squeeze through in the wrong direction.
