retirement visa
retirement visa
I am interested in relocating to Cambodia and would like to know the process for getting a retirement visa. I am over 60 years old and from the USA. Can anyone tell me?
When you fly in, get the type e ordinary visa. The more expensive one posted. Not the tourist visa. Check to make sure you have the correct one before you leave that window. It is valid for 30 days, and can be renewed once for 30 more days. The very next day, before you start playing around, go to a reputable agent and apply for the retirement visa. I use Cina Travel https://cinatravel.com/ . $290 for 1 year, multiple entry. You will need to be registered with the government's FPCS app and provide a screenshot, but Cina will explain this to you. Your landlord or hotel/guesthouse needs to register you. Again, Cina will explain and help. It might take a few days to sort that BS out, but you'll have more than 3 weeks to get it done. You'll also need to give them a passport sized or slightly smaller, color photo, After all that crap is done, they'll send it in, and you'll get your new retirement visa in 2 weeks or less. That visa will start the day after your type e ordinary visa expires. You won't lose any time. Then go to renew it 11 months + 1 day before it expires.
And since this is the kingdom of wonder, everything I just said could be completely wrong tomorrow. So ask again a few days before you travel.
Just don't trust your guesthouse or a fixer or some random dude that promises you the world for an awesomely low price. So many get scammed. Do it yourself through a reputable agent.

Thanks for the very good information. I will do just as you said.

I dont get this bit.
Can someone elaborate why so long before it expires the holder should renew it?

Sorry. That was a little confusing.Guest2 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 1:38 pmThen go to renew it 11 months + 1 day before it expires.

My 1 year visa extension expires on February 28. If I go to renew in January, they can't do it. But on Feb 1, they can. If it expired on April 21, the earliest I could renew is March 22. On March 21 they would say not yet. Strange but true for the last 16 years.
I always renew as early as possible because shit happens here. A lot. Twice I've had strange issues that took a few weeks to sort out, but since I started the process early, it was handled before any overstay fees could be applied. And the new visa extension always starts the day after the old one expires, even though I go to the agent almost 1 month early.
Also, be sure you have enough time on your passport. For a 1 year extension you need at least 1 year and 3 months more of passport validity, or so I was told. Maybe PSD Kiwi can elaborate.
Hope that clears things up. Sorry, I'm old and it's really farking hot and humid today which isn't much of an excuse because it's usually farking hot and humid this time of year in Phnom Penh.

With the correct paperwork or extra money without for longer extensions.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 3:24 pmIt's valid for 30 days and can be renewed for 30 days/ 3 months/ 6 months/ 12 months.Guest wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 12:31 pmWhen you fly in, get the type e ordinary visa. Oops. Sorry again. Still old and hot.
You get your visa on arrival, then apply for a retirement extension of stay (EOS).
Lucky Lucan: I thought both an ordinary and tourist visa could only be extended once for another 30 days. Doesn't the ordinary have to be changed to a different type of EOS before it expires? I don't know anything about the "looking for work" (EG?) EOS, or any of the others. I was old enough to get the retirement extension when they changed everything and added the work permit malarkey.

Well I assumed anyone wanting an extension would have the correct documents.

Dont you have airconditioning?
Dont you have airconditioning?
Yes, at home. I wasn't at home when I posted.
You are required to have a minimum 2x blank Visa pages and minimum 6 months validity remaining on your passport from the date your EOS will expire, so if you're applying for a 6 month EOS you need at least 12 months from the time your current Visa or EOS is due to expire, 12 month EOS then you need at least 18 months.Guest wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 3:18 pm

I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
T-type (Tourist) Visas and e-Visas (electronic online Tourist Visa) can o ly be extended once for a further 30 days.Guest wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 3:43 pmOops. Sorry again. Still old and hot.

With the E-type (Ordinary) Visa you have 6x different EOS categories available, up to 12 months depending on the purpose of your stay, some can be continually extended (including the ER (Retirement) EOS), some can't.
