Good Afternoon.
Wife and son are travelling to Cambodia and need to renew passports etc. Can i please ask for advice / experiences on ;
1 ) I am renewing son's current Australian passport ( AP ) before he travels . Existing AP has the K Visa stuck in it. When he gets his new AP - can he show that old passport / K Visa and enter ? Or will he have to enter as tourist and redo K visa for the new AP ? My understandsing was that a K visa is only issued once in perpetuity however the one in his old AP has an expiry date stamped on it to match his AP expiry date.
2 ) Son's Cambodian passport ( CP ) ran out late last year so Id like to get that renewed. How long does this take and do they just need the old passport and new photos or will wife need to take birth certs etc ?
3 ) Wife's CP expires in 2025. Out of interest is it possible to renew for ten years ahead of time ? Again - if possible - what docs does she need and how long etc...
Thanks in advance for your help

K-type Visas are only valid for the lifetime of the passport, up until about 8-9 years ago they never used to indicate an Expiry date, but that changed.
Need to provide all supporting documentation again for renewal. Birth cert, Family Book or Carnet de Residence, National ID Card (if have), old passport.chilliwilli wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 2:46 pm2 ) Son's Cambodian passport ( CP ) ran out late last year so Id like to get that renewed. Photos and biometrics are taken at the passport office, cannot provide your own, all applicabts need to apply in person for this reason.
There are different processing time options standard is 20 business days, there is also a 10 day option and a 1 day option, faster processing options cost more.
My wife recently tried this and was told can only apply for a renewal within 12 months of the expiry date. Going to try again at the Aeon Mall 2 passport office, will let you know how she gets on.chilliwilli wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 2:46 pm3 ) Wife's CP expires in 2025. Many thanks for the prompt and useful reply as always .
Can I further ask ;
Is the K Visa application just done at Ponchentong Arrivals on touch down ? And - what is needed ? Just the old passport ? or birth certificate etc ? We do not have family book or ID card ( for him ) or CdeR etc. This did not stop us getting him a passport originally in 2011.
interstingly - i looked into how/if passport renewal can be done outside Cambodia at the Cambodian Embassy in Canberrra and it seems Aussoies and kiwis can with a ( very ) simple authorisation letter for a 3rd party to do the pick up. Seems they must just send on to Cambodia ?
Process here;

Form can be seen here ;

Old passport and birth certificate will be sufficient for K-type Visa on arrival....just tick "Special" Visa on the Immigration Card and go to the Visa on Arrival counter.
Or, you could always apply for the K-type Visa in advance from the Cambodian Embassy in Canberra to avoid lining up for the VOA.
That info on the Cambodian Embassy in Australia website regarding passport renewals is outdated, it is in reference to pre-biometric 10 year passports, it even cleaely states as such. Previously it was possible to get 2x Extensions of the 5 year passports, but all 5 year passports are well expired by now.

I have just managed to get through to the Cambodian Embassy in Canberra after many attempts.
They can issue a formal Authorised Representative letter to allow someone to renew Cambodian Passports in Cambodia on the applicants behalf . Simple form to fill out with a few copied docs mailed to them and they send the letter back to you for you to then present to passport office in Cambodia . $10
K Visa can be put into new AP by sending the new AP to them - with a few copies of docs. $10
"Just put the cash in the envelope " they said
Hmm....let us know how you go with that one, I don't have much faith in what the Cambodian Embassy staff are telling you, they're not known to be very competent But things may have changed, and I may be wrong.chilliwilli wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 8:02 am

Shall do.
I have visions of wife arriving in Phnom Penh with the letter only to be told "we don't / can't use this letter "

Sorry, I thought the letter you were referring to was for your wife to authorise a 3rd party in Cambodia to apply for her passport....if your wife is coming to apply for her passport renewal then what point is a letter from the Embassy? Not necessarychilliwilli wrote: ↑Thu Jun 02, 2022 2:35 amShall do.
